Woah, hold it, PT. This is way more trippy than the feature (is that saying something?) but it was very good as it provided a more objective view on Barry and his world and that may probably be the reason why Anderson removed them as it eliminates any sort of mystery from his perspective. Everything seemed dream-like in the movie because Egan is constantly having that "punch-drunk" feeling and what Blossoms and Blood is doing is something important but there is that distance that separates the viewer from him still so I'm cool with it.
I don't know if I'm comfortable calling this a short film. Sure, they form a bit of story but I think the description says "plotless"…
kinda love how pta makes these shorts using bits of unused footage and manages to capture the feel of each film perfectly!!! his MIND
Blossoms & Blood isn’t a groundbreaking short, nor is it anything close to that, but it is another look into the endlessly whimsical and peculiar world of Punch-Drunk Love, which is exactly what I needed. In this short, PTA utilizes the same great ethereal lighting and visuals as seen in the feature, but offering brand new scenes, which their position on the Punch-Drunk Love timeline is unknown. This PTA supplemental creation really succeeds in touching on all of the important aspects within the film such as Barry and Lena’s relationship (obviously), Barry’s compulsive pudding purchasing, along with his work life, which ends up making for a great preview to the actual film (although it may be a little spoilery). But this…
I love these short films that PTA crafts out of deleted scenes so, so much
Definitely not as much of a standalone story as Back Beyond was to The Master, and this seems more of a direct companion piece
Blossoms and Blood just got me thinking about how odd PDL truly is
The song this is set to is so charming and beautiful

For some reason this made me think about that scene where WALL·E’s watching “Hello, Dolly!” on his tv. It’s just a really sweet and surreal short in the best of ways. It’s cool to see the extra scenes but it also holds up fairly well on it’s own as a short film. It’s funny, has good music and a cohesive story about love and pain.
Awww this made me go :) :) :) :) :)
Was saving it for a day when I wanted a good smile, and it definitely gave me that. Loved the pudding bit a ton, especially the elevator music version of the theme lmao. Also loved the actual song they used, didn’t know that song existed until now. I’m a sucker for songs that use the theme from the film.
I wish more filmmakers would choose to present their deleted scenes like this.
