Kayako Kirishima of the third year at a high school feels a sense of isolation in school life and vague admiration and uneasiness in the future. One day she makes friends with Endō who is isolated from her surroundings because she remained in the same class for another year. Kayako is strongly attracted by Endō who shows her a world that she didn't know.

we met on the first day of high school.
it was health class, first period. the class buzzed with students eager to find their seats. I sat down next to her. she told me she remembered me from elementary school (I didn’t, and I still don’t).
we quickly became friends, and so began freshman year. we started our own club and eventually made more friends. we spent the year studying, playing, messing around like normal kids.
sophomore year passed, as did junior year. our club didn’t meet anymore. our friend group dissipated. i no longer cared about studying or playing.

Blue focuses more on silence than talking. Both girls always have words remain unsaid that leads to their subtle intimacy. The silence helps us connect with the characters and process their feelings as well as our own. That makes this special. Very silent, but very loud, and very capable of making you feel things.
Blue has a great deal of sincerity it it. If you're in film school chance is you learned how to engineer a film to produce any kind of emotion/reaction you want from your audience. Shot it close up, the greater the obstacles the greater the drama, cut it like this, light it like that, all of those tricks. But, i think you can't quite engineer sincerity. Yes, you can engineer drama, but not sincerity.

Kirishima's love for Endo is so deep that she always understands. She chooses to be silent and deals with her love, anger, and pain Endo causes her, alone. She understands and accepts that the love you give to people is not the same as the love you receive from them.
about loving and letting them go, respecting space, wandering through the night and thinking about your purpose in life, or the marks you leave on everyone you meet. it’s boring and quiet, yes, but absolutely sincere in its portrayal of shared loneliness. nothing is forever, sometimes things and people need to leave because that’s their purpose, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t gonna hurt like a bitch. at least we have the memories
