Outside of the baffling conclusion, Blue Jay is a by-the-numbers indie-made survival-thriller of crazy mountain men stalking and terrorising a newly acquainted couple on a hiking trek. It’s well-made with a minor experimental touch here and there. Beautifully pristine mountain locations are strikingly photographed, and solid lead performances by James Landry Hébert and Sara Lindsey (who also co-wrote the story) anchor this one. I think the film was trying for some metaphysical aspects (the fascination for Lindsey’s character seems much deeper for the leader of the mountain men), but I found those scattered elements incoherent than clear-cut.
Blue Jay vs. the inbred mountain ninjas.
How can you be the second best movie called Blue Jay that comes out in a calendar year?
this was about 60 minutes too long which is saying something given it’s only 83 minutes long.
as soon as i know something is wrong i'm booking it to the nearest cliff and taking a nosedive bro i am not playing no freeze tag with no mountain men kudos to her though (the movie ends when it says 3700 feet btw the rest is a dream)
Bloodless, tepid slog involving a bland couple being stalked by a 90’s grunge band with a conclusion that’s daring you to walk out on it.
A newly dating couple decide to go on an off season hike up a mountain, only to run into a foursome of men with a keen interest in the woman.
Pretty well made and believably acted. Seems pretty familiar though, nothing overly new done here, but what is done is done simply and well.
An enjoyable time kill.
