Boiling Point is a magnificent film. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for all of my working life, which has been all of 5 years (so long I know!), working as both a waiter for some of that and a chef for the rest has been stressful to say the least. Nothing captures that sense of stress like Boiling Point does. It exudes stress from every fibre of its being. It captures what it’s like to work in a restaurant perfectly, fights, arguments and bashing are all to common but the laughs and bonds you share all make it worth while. It’s a weird film I relate to on more than just a surface level, touching me and allowing me…
Ratatouille, but make it scouse, with a dash of Gordon Ramsay and a glaze of Safdie.
Stephen Graham is, for my money, the greatest actor working in film today. I've said it before - I likened his portrayal of Combo in the film and miniseries events of This is England to that of Pacino in The Godfather saga - and I'll continue to say it again and again as long as he has years like 2021.
First came Help. Without question, one of the most biting, important films of the year, and as a British person living in the daily shitshow that is Boris' Britain, an essential document of the failures of our wretched system from top to bottom. Graham himself took a slight backstep in that film, rather than the Pacino-esque whirlwind of force he…
jesus fucking christ my heart nearly had a stroke. the fact that it's one take and the use of close ups elevated the stress, panic, and claustrophobia to a degree that was slightly painful to watch but at the same time an incredible and one of a kind viewing experience. i could've watched it for hours, every performance is so realistic and you have no idea what's gonna happen with each encounter. when the camera would follow a server walking towards a table i could feel my heart beating out of my chest because i was worried that they were gonna trip and fall or have to face a twatty customer which would cause a chain of fuckery that would…
Films such as these are fantastic examples of why I like this platform so much. I was unaware of the existence of this film until just a few days ago, and then the comparisons to the films of the Safdie brothers piqued my interest.
And boy, if you didn't look up the information on the internet, you could very easily think that this film was made by the brothers. The tension, the anxiety level surrounding the film is at an all-time high, and as the story progresses, everything continues to build to a great climax with repercussions that pay off. The performances feel so organic, really how natural it all felt, further along with the one take on the whole…
Thought I would relax after a hard day and watch Boiling Point......
Several panic attacks later and I can confirm Stephen Graham is the best actor working today. Everyone is at the top of their game here barely getting time to breathe from scene to scene in this gripping single shot masterpiece.
