Honestly, I would say that this is such a beautiful documentary about the band. Instead of following the same steps of a classic documentary (biography, early years...), it follows their path by starting in the city where it all began and where the band still lives: Dublin.
In this city, Bono and The Edge will share memories about the beginning of U2 and they will realize how far they have gone since those times. But in this documentary, there is much more about the future than the past of U2.
Many U2 fans are not in favor of U2's new album. They claim that the band has been lazy and that they are not the same.…
Is there a better way to spend the end of St. Patrick’s day than by watching two of the funding members of the best and most influential Irish rock band of all time going back to their roots while walking the streets of Dublin?
Of course a delight to every U2 fan, but also a very interesting and refreshing documentary to music lovers in general, A Sort of Homecoming serves as Bono & The Edge’s love letter to Dublin and Ireland, while also provides a much needed update on one of the most beloved and best-selling rock bands of the last 50 years.
One of the things that I appreciated more about this new project by Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville is…
I found it very relatable when Letterman was standing next to The Edge and The Edge played "Where the Streets Have No Name" and Letterman was like "please do it again."
Listen. Listen. I adore U2, and for me this was totally delightful. They even filmed parts of it in Marsh's Library, as if to say, "this one's for all our rare book librarian fans." I'm touched. 🥲
as insufferable and indispensable as ever
Their story, stage presence, activism and overall presentation all so maddeningly choreographed it obscures what this project has finally revealed: these guys really know how to write a pop song. Like really know it.
It's 2019. I've just finished my last ever exam at school (physics) and I run out of school and hop in to the waiting car, feeling GUN AS. Dad and I head up the Hume for what was my second ever concert. Our favourite band: U2.
I've always had a strange affinity for U2. Maybe it was our family weekend jobs, which were done whilst watching old U2 concerts. Even now, I rarely listen to anything else, but why would I? I love their music. The concert was incredible. They played all my favourites, but the best part of it was being there with my dad. Sitting down to watch this brought back those memories. Whilst I wasn't a huge…
The greatest band in the world. Earnest and artificial, contrived and sincere—honest showmen with a smirk. Bono and Edge are the most perfectly-paired souls, one man tied heartbreakingly, joyfully to his past and the other is from the future.
Most of the stripped-down songs in this film and on the new album work. But I hope after some of this time spent apart, Larry and Adam come back with full hearts soon.
“A transcendent place we can go to, together. Do you want to come?”
I love U2, their music has consistently stirred and inspired me. This was an enjoyable review of the band and the importance of their Irish heritage in molding their past, present, and future.
Of course I would watch this. On 17 March. When U2 releases a new reimagined album. Of course.
I just loved every bit. The Edge’s guitar/overall musical skills. Bono’s performance. Dave Letterman asking good questions. Dubliners’ take on their band.
I could just rewatch this again. Right now.
I have seen U2 in concerts several times. Never gets old. Let’s get those tickets to the Sphere in Vegas!!
Utterly brilliant. We love U2 & we love David Letterman. Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone.
