Bubba Ho-tep tells the "true" story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his "death," then missed his chance to switch back. He must team up with JFK and fight an ancient Egyptian mummy for the souls of their fellow residents.

I’m an Elvis stan and my girlfriend is Egyptian so Coscarelli’s funny/reflective/somber Elvis/JFK vs a cowboy mummy in a Texas waiting to die facility hit the spot. First revisit in a few years reminded me how much I love this weirdo early 2000’s good mojo jam. We laughed, we cried, we talked about life and hieroglyphics—it was a great night.

Prior to writing this review, I was unaware of the existence of not only the film but also the possibility of such a concept. So as soon as I heard about this movie, I decided to see it the next day, how could I not, this is a movie with Bruce Campbell playing Elvis who never really died and is hiding out in a retirement home that one day is attacked by an ancient mummy who goes around sucking the residents' souls out their ass.

There are times when some films just take you along on a wild ride. This film is utterly nuts, but somehow it works, certainly in the comedy stakes with Bruce Campbell just brilliant as "The King" ably supported by a black President Kennedy. Yep that's right a black JFK who's been dyed that color after the failed assassination and dumped in a retirement home in Texas. That's really about as plausible as the plot gets.
In Men In Black Tommy Lee Jones stated that Elvis wasn't dead, he simply went home. I'm not sure if this is exactly what he meant but Elvis turns up in a Texas retirement home after swapping lives with an impersonator back in the seventies.…

Strange things are afoot at the Mud Creek Shady Rest Home when a geriatric Elvis and his faithful sidekick, JFK are forced to come face to face with a soul-sucking Egyptian Mummy Cowboy and his big bitch bugs.
I love the bizarre premise and the combo of Bruce Campbell & Ossie Davis is a lot of fun, but admittedly some of the slow pacing and sub par execution left me as unfufilled as a soggy peanut butter and banana sandwich. .

Conceptually, a film about a geriatric Elvis Presley facing off against an Egyptian mummy sounds, well, awesome. Casting Bruce Campbell as Elvis and pairing with Ossie Davis as JFK only adds to the potential awesomeness. Unfortunately, there is not much to "Bubba Ho-tep" beyond its concept and casting.
Burning off most of the energy from its concept early on, "Bubba Ho-tep" is a mix of horror and comedy that falls flat due to a limp story and lackluster pacing.
