first of all I just want to talk about the number of women that worked on this film- written, edited and directed by a woman (sarah adina smith), cinematography by a woman (shaheen seth), casting by a woman (samy burch), production design by a woman (alexis rose), art direction by two women (tessla hastings, alexis wade), the make-up department consists of three women, costume design by a woman, a female unit production manager and a female first assistant director. 4/5 executive producers are women and so many more women worked on this film. I just thought that's pretty fucking great!? and this movie is so good too. rami malek was great.
Watching Rami Malek teach the little girl Spanish literally made my figurative ovaries throb.
rami maleks voice feels like someone softly rubbing a very soft fluffy baby blanket across your check on a cool fall night
currently purchasing a house in the mountains so mountain man rami malek can break in and make me food
The most accurate review of this would be an audio recording of me screaming.
Buster's Mal Heart is so much more than I could have expected. Sarah Adina Smith writes, directs, and edits with such precision and skill that this complex, non-linear narrative becomes completely fascinating. This is a film that requires a lot of work on the audience's part, yet I never felt lost while watching it. Rami Malek's accomplished performance helps with this; he so well embodies his character that even in moments where the narrative threatens to swing too far, he keeps me grounded in the emotion of the situation.
There's so much I want to say about this film thematically and how incredible its structure is,…
This was a letdown. This is a movie I've had on my Netflix queue for years, and maybe because of all that wait, the movie just didn't measure up to my expectations, which weren't high to begin with as I wasn't expecting much.
Essentially, the film has a good concept and Malek does his thing, but it all ends up feeling pretty random. There is no clear premise, and nothing appears to make sense. The cinematography is excellent. The score is good, especially in terms of evoking that sense of bewilderment.
All in all, unfortunately any good intentions here are lost in a script that is too ambiguous for its own good. Also this is the closest I've seen to Rami showing any range, but his stoic personality is already getting on my nerve.
