I really love this movie, and not for the obvious reason, so here’s a little female perspective for you chuds.
Whaley is so incredibly charming as doofy outcast, never over-fixated with Josie, but relatable self-involved idiosyncratic Jim. Right on the cusp of the “mall movie” aka Clueless, Mallrats, etc. quirky shenanigans in the only place young people can convene after high school and before twenty-one. Includes intense flashbacks to the time I worked at PetSmart for the summer, not really knowing how to do my job (what was my job, anyway?) and meandering through the aisles with my boyfriend who would goof around there while I “worked.” We all been there.

oh to get locked in target overnight, roller skate around the store, fall in love and run away to los angeles with my crush. yet another unrealistic expectation i’ll never be able to fulfill.
How cool is this? An early 90s John Hughes romantic comedy, set in a Target store, with a peak gorgeous Jennifer Connelly? So much fun and very, very cool. I suppose it’s not as good as a lot of the other Hughes comedy films of the era, but I was in a good mood when watching it at 1am so I had a great time with it, and truly it is quite a joy to watch Jennifer Connelly at any time but here in this she is just radiant, what a stunner!! It’s nice and short too, only 80 minutes, another massive positive. If I had seen this as a kid it 100% would’ve been a favourite that I watched over and over. If you don’t want to roller skate around an empty Target in your underwear holding hands with Jennifer Connelly then I don’t wanna know you!!

I wish I had seen this when it was released. I think my 16-year-old self would have guaranteed a life-long Jennifer Connelly crush, if only for that one scene (if you've seen it, you know what I mean)
Apart from the lovely Mrs. Connelly this is actually a rather enjoyable film. Sure, it's simple, but the comedy is quick and snappy and because it is tightly paced there is no room for annoying static. It starts, it finishes and in between you're entertained, all you could ask for really.
Whatever happened to Frank Whaley? He is actually rather good here. I always appreciate his energy and even though he sometimes comes across as a Downey Jr. clone I somehow feel he deserved a better career than he has had now.
Lovely 90's comedy with John Hughes's hand firmly present which makes for an ejoyable 80 minutes.
Basically Home Alone meets The Breakfast Club, Career Opportunities once again sees writer and producer John Hughes retreading familiar ground, but his snappy dialogue along with strong lead turns from Frank Whaley and Jennifer Connelly make it an overall fun affair.
