  Honestly one of the most relatable depictions of mental illness I've seen in a movie. There's so much in here that really expresses how I experience depression and anxiety.

  The sense of detachment, then those bursts where you just don't want to, can't, be alone. (When she goes to that diner with her neighbour). How you are followed by fear (here taking the form of the undead man). Those periods where you feel you're not part of the world and/or everything isn't quite real.   Carnival of Souls has always felt otherworldly to me, a disorienting yet evocative mudsoaked descent into the nether regions of strange—a dance of death daymare steeped in a forever imitated atmosfear.

  Piles of unstoppable dread shrouded in some hazy psychological purgatory of insidious ghouls and trance-like organ music. Pure terror... the perfect mood—60’s melancholy gothic with no budget tension mastery pushed to the max.   It's funny... the world is so different in the daylight. In the dark, your fantasies get so out of hand. But in the daylight everything falls back into place again.

  After a traumatic car accident, Mary Henry miraculously ascends from a river unharmed and becomes drawn to a mysterious abandoned carnival all-the-while a ghostly male figure haunts her— let the ultimate paranoid daymare begin. 

  Carnival of Souls still holds up at being one of the most terrifying and surreal films I’ve ever seen.
