probably as close as I'll ever come to knowing what it feels like to find Jesus.

UPDATE: i found jesus. Carol was better.
about 75 minutes in i looked at my phone to check the time and the reflection in my screen had more black people than all of Todd Haynes’s idea of New York in the 50s
edit: please stop having absolutely unhinged reactions to this flippant joke about the widely-loved and personally-enjoyed 2015 drama Carol
LGBT culture is sneaking off from your family’s holiday dinner to go watch carol in your room alone
They should do an Audrey Hepburn
biopic starring Rooney Mara.
She's the only actress that
I could see fit for the role.
Martin Scorsese recently said in an interview, "Cinema is gone." but what I think he meant was, "Cinema is gone because what's the point of making films when Carol exists?"
this is the lesbian movie i've been waiting for!!!! there are so many things done right here
1. they never wear bras which is great because i haven't worn a bra in 3 years & it's so comfortable & i love when other girls are comfortable
2. a non-objectifying sex scene! i'm so tired of lesbian sex scenes that are just there for dudes to jack off to
3. the costumes are so beautiful ... i cry ...
4. the director is actually gay! & sarah paulson & carrie brownstein are also gay! yay!
5. todd haynes specifically cut a scene where therese gives a guy a handjob because this is a movie about female rather than male pleasure & i love that. there are…
you played yourself when you thought there was a better movie than this 1950s lesbian road trip christmas drama
in the name of the father (cate blanchett), the son (rooney mara), and the holy ghost (sarah paulson),
have the heterosexuals who called this cold ever felt a feeling before every single look or touch shared between carol and therese is so deeply imbued with unspoken feeling and warmth it makes me feel dizzy
some thoughts:
•when therese goes "I can't think straight!" bitch me too the fuck
•CAROL DOING THE LESBIAN SALUTE™
•carol angrily saying "you MARRIED a woman like me" > all of gone girl (2014)
•sandy powell really kicked me in the ASS with this one didn't she lads! carol's tartan jacket! those hats! the robes! the blouses and skirts and trousers and everything else too! I gotta lie down until 2050
•every time richard calls therese "terry" I break out in hives
•when carol winked at therese I felt my whole body up & leave this mortal plane
•carol says I love you so many times before she actually says it and I cry everytime
•this is the best movie ever made
“So i do the only thing i can... I release you.”
I didn’t expect it to be this good.. the story is simple yet really amusing, the characters were very interesting it was something else.
the colors, the music and the beautiful capture of two people in love... the looks and gazing they shared was out of this world, carol truly captured scared forbidden love in such a beautiful way.
Its a slow film about two people in love. A beautiful one, wish it had a more satisfying ending though.
Marks one of my favorite romantic films out there.
Everyone talked about this movie for so long and I still wasn’t prepared when I sat down and watched it.
I’m smiling just thinking about that last shot.
Gutturally yelled at two people to stop talking during the screening and woke a sleeping Stevie Secrets who was sitting next to me. Wicked good score. Blanchett is gasoline on the beat. Needed more Chandler. Pretty gay.
I can't be more into this movie, the story is simple but not boring at all, the colors and the music are stunning, the characters are interesting and engaging. This might be one of my favorite romantic (not necessarily lgbtq+) movies.
watched this film with my best friend who I also fell in love with, it will always hold a special place in my heart. The silent subtleties speak so loud in this piece.
idk maybe I overhyped it, but it just didn’t totally do it for me. Still a great film, beautiful cinematography & directing & acting & writing, but something about the characters & their relationship didn’t sell it. There wasn’t the tenderness I expected, I guess. Kinda felt like Carol didn’t treat Therese all that well tbh. I think I’m still riding that portrait of a lady on fire high & nothing I’ve seen since then has even come close
One of my favorite movies ever :(( I feel like there is not enough wlw movies that show the reality of what it’s like to be a girl in love with a girl rather than just catering to men’s desires with the plot being unnecessary raunchy scenes and no real depth!! but rather carol shows how hard it was and still is to love who you want freely. Regardless jeje I am also happy that although I cry every time the ending was happy, and also hopeful to me. I feel like it was also comforting in a way that although they were two women in love who had to go through many hardships just to be together, a happy…
