I have a real soft spot for these little morsels of English comedy history, and reading the review from our very own Sophie recently gave me the urge to give them another run. What better place to start than with Barbara Windsor and her unfeasibly short shorts (for the time), teeny-weeny-bikini and unrelentingly infectious laugh.
This is bawdy, lude and not very PC at all but I don't care. It's great fun and it's cinematic history. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Now before we go, I just need to do a recount of how many times Terry Scott's rear is shot, set fire to, kicked, charged by a bull and generally abused during this film.
I wasn't intending to watch Carry On Camping but ITV3 decided to show it in honour of Barbara Windsor who recently passed away. I think its fair to say that it was Carry On Camping was the film that cemented Barbara as a star. It also happens to be one of the best Carry On films that she starred in.

All the right elements of cheek are here but it’s a tipping point, as such was this entry’s commercial success - the number one film at the British box office in 1969 no less - that from here to the end in 1978 flashes of breasts became the norm with single entendres bating the censor in quickening order. Harmless stuff though, and in the hands of this cast it acquires a degree of charm.
It’s loose, it’s shapeless but has such bounce as to beguile and is pretty much part of the national furniture now - “Matron, take them away!”
This is it folks, this is the one. Whenever anyone mentions the Carry On franchise this is the one that everyone thinks of. And all because of one scene, actually just one moment... and maybe the punchline.
I'm not saying it's not fun, if you're an aficionado that is, but really what people should think of whenever Carry On is mentioned is Cleo or Khyber or Screaming, films with genuine wit and occasionally, very occasionally, something to say.
But no, it's all about Barbara Windsor's tits. This was the beginning of the end (fnarr fnarr!).

Another person who passed away recently was Barbara Windsor. As the soap EastEnders does not air on TV in the United States, I only knew her from her occasional appearances in this franchise. In fact, it's only from looking at UK websites in the past that I even have heard of EastEnders before. Anyhow, Windsor was a delight in the only film I had seen her in (Carry On Spying) picking this out seemed like a worthy gamble, and it was.

This is my first time watching a Carry On film well at least the whole length from start to finish I've seen parts here and there in the background on the tele,and maybe even my last.
I believe Carry On Camping is best known because you see Barbara Windsor's breast which is very brief blink and you miss it. The plot is basically two men try to trick their partners into going to a nudists Camp but it turns out the camp is not nudists, the film also has stories focusing on a coach full of school girls and a married couple.
The humour doesn't really work for me I don't really get it,I don't really enjoy all the innuendos, many of the jokes are painful to watch at times. The film becomes at times a endurance test and a bit of hard watch but you might find yourself sometimes laughing at how stupid it can be, not for me.
