What a wonderful, little documentary, about men and cats… plus also life and getting through catastrophes, with a little help from their furry friends.
The amount of weird looks I have gotten from people, when I tell them I have two cats at home (Aqua and Lulu FTW) that I adore, has been a steady thing, on my 4 year journey as a cat dad.
For some weird reason it’s seen as effeminate, for a guy to love cats, but I was always very settled in my sex and gender, so I never really gave much of a damn about that. This documentary explores that aspect of being a cat dad and also how cat skeptics have been shown the…
The world needs more cat daddies. ALL THE CAT DADDIES! 💕

A sweetly oriented doc with its heart in the right place, it just can't find a direction to go or a point to settle down on. Its wider subject matter, as well as its final moments, suggest that this is a film about the often ignored relationships between men and felines, and the social lens this provides to view modern masculinity through. For so long the wider cultural conversation has been pushed towards cat ownership being this strange act of sad loneliness and desperation, and that there's a sense of weakness involved with a man owning a cat. The pervasive nature of this sensibility has created this strange stigma among men, and the idea of a film existing…
"If you see a man care for something, that's not himself, it's attractive" - A Girlfriend,
Real men love cats!
So this film was made in 2022 and they talk A LOT about how it's hard for men to admit that they like cats because they are perceived as feminine.... is that true? I just didn't realize that was something people would be dumb enough to care about. Anyways, you get to see a lot of cats here and 2 of the 9 stories are VERY touching and most are quite watchable.
Sure, but some of the commentary is weird.

It’s all too precious and the cat-dad relationships are sweet, are details you can tell from the poster and premise, and you’ll get exactly those things out of it if it’s what you want. What I didn’t realize is that the movie would reveal my empty cold-heartedness, my uncaring attitudes toward the subjects and their cat companions. How sad and bitter of me, facing imminent Cat Daddyship myself, not to feel this is a totally useful lens to study masculinity and male-pet relationships. Again it’s easy to watch and you already know what you can take away from it, unbelievably my heart turned to stone and I didn’t care, despite really enjoying cats in person and…
People who don’t like cats and only like dogs are not good people. Oh you need a creature that will unconditionally love you, give you affection 24/7, and whose entire world is you??? Narcissistic ass hoe suck my toes.
two of my favorite things.
a far cry from the likes of Kedi but you know me, I'm always down for a cat doc. def needed more focus on cats instead of the owners and their stories.
shoutout to the Twain quote it opens with: "When a man loves cats, I am his friend and comrade, without further introduction." and that's the tea.
also, pretty iconic that one of the Cat Daddies was outside the theater after the showing with their cat lol.
Breaking up with my boyfriend so we can meet again on the cat person dating site 💔❤️

I'm not a cat fan because I'm deathly allergic but I am a daddy fan and I have to say as much as this doc explores masculinity and cat ownership I'm surprised none of the daddies were gay. I guess it's only challenging gender norms if straight men own cats but it's definitely a missed opportunity to explore masculinity through a wider lens. Still, it was cute and not the TLC network special I was expecting.
