There's no way I can give this any kind of numerical rating. It transcends "good" or "bad." It's a deranged nightmarish vision committed to 100% by everyone involved. It should never have been made, but I'm so glad it was. One of the best times I had in a movie theater in 2019. I'll probably never watch it again.

All are equal here. Judi Dench is no better at acting than Taylor Swift. Jennifer Hudson is no more effective at singing than Rebel Wilson. Ian McKellen has no more dignity than Jason Derulo. For possibly the first time in cinematic history, James Corden is no more of a nuisance than anyone else on screen. All brought to the same level. All Cats.

unfortunately i did not hate this, and the key to that is to go in expecting plotless nonsense, and also to be pleasantly stoned. you must suspend every iota of disbelief. you must completely submit to the dancing hellcats.
once you do that, you’ll be able to recognize this as truly AUDACIOUS filmmaking, one of those miraculous absurdist experimental studio blockbusters that defied all odds and logic to come to fruition. i admire the bold choice to omit any traditional narrative structure, a move guaranteed to push the boundaries of what general audiences can tolerate.

There’s so much to love about this movie.
Have you ever seen a cast have too much chemistry? Well now I have. They were all so horny and the setting was so dark and dingy that at every moment I felt like I was at a really seedy strip club for furries.
The proportion of the sizes of random objects were off so everything just felt.. wrong. That combined with the terrifying human-cat hybrid faces makes this not only the best horror movie of the year, but of the decade. Guys, Rebel Wilson unzips her cat body only to reveal a bedazzled cat body. And she does this while eating cockroaches with human faces. Nightmare fuel. Literally nightmare…
