I think if you don't like short stories where there isn't necessarily a beginning or an end or even a point, there's just some parameters and stuff that happens within them, you won't like this movie. Conversely if you do, you will. This seems to be Kelly Reichardt's forte (and her name as director was why I jumped at watching this). Admittedly it's polarizing. and why there are so many negative ratings of this film and this kind of film. (Then again, if it's not your kind of thing but is still done well, why throw rocks at it?)
Apparently this film was derived from several stories by Maile Meloy, a name that I've now added to my endless list of authors to read.
In the end credits the film was dedicated to Lucy, the director's dog who appeared in Wendy and Lucy -- a movie I highly recommend. I suppose that means that Lucy is no more.
