Letterboxd is really trying to stir the shit by putting the "Chappelle's Home Team" branding into the title of this...
It's a travesty that it took this long for the great Earthquake to get a Netflix special, and unlike, oh, pretty much every other Netflix comedy special I've seen this one feels like it could have been a little longer at just 36 minutes, and at least two or three of those are given over to a self-serious intro from Dave Chappelle, who doesn't even try to be funny, a weird way to start the show. But Earthquake is simply a master of his craft, there's really no point in me relaying any of my favorite lines here since there's…
I laughed a good bit during this special that was as much a PSA as a standup routine. Earthquake's delivery is always on point and he had no problems holding my attention.
I think this was my first time ever seeing any comedy from Earthquake but hopefully will not be my last. 7.5/10
Plane watch ✈️
Man, that was fun. Always loved Earthquake. He called me out at Laugh Factory once. I was front row, he was looking around to start something & he looked at me, I was high as fuck & he could tell I didn’t wanna be fucked with & literally said I ain’t fucking with this motherfucker, he got that weed eye & I know not to fuck with a motherfucker who give you that weed eye. Something like that. He read me perfectly & he killed it that night and he kills it in this.
His Jan 6th bit about shooting everyone is tops.
A little hit or miss but the long funeral bit had me dying and there’s just an old school comedy charm here I can’t help but like.
This is what a comedy special should be!
This is now my third time watching this, and it still hits! I love that unlike the majority of specials that are well over an hour with mainly half of it being filler half ass jokes this is 30 minutes of nonstop laughing your ass off.
This is what a standup should be. Highly highly recommend.
Earthquake had this crowd ROLLIN’. It wasn’t just courtesy happy to be here laughs, he had people legit losing their shit. Big fan of Earthquake. Had me in tears during his prostate exam bit. He’s at his best when he keeps the stories personal. Kind of fell off midway through during the Trump bits. He got a little preachy. He picked it back up with his final bit with how soft kids are nowadays and their reliance on Wi-Fi. I’ve done the whole unplug the Wi-Fi strategy to get my kids to listen a number of times, so that hit close to home for me.
Besides the dip in the middle with the political talk, the only other draw back…
Never heard of Earthquake before but I saw him as one of the openings acts for the Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle show in Holland. He was really funny. Unfortunately, his material was much stronger there than in this special. The only real funny skits were the funeral and the kids bit during the end. Earthquake is a funny guy but sometimes, he doesn't let his audience breath. Instead of waiting for the laugh, he just goes on. It's funny when the material is good but when it isn't, it's a bit tiresome.
A great reminder that I need to explore more comedians I don’t know. Earthquake has one of the best energies I've seen on stage. He’s just non-stop and relentless. I don't think the audience stopped laughing the entire time.
Earthquake the rare comedian that can make a 36min special feel way too short and yet also make you laugh for the whole time, I thought I was dying
Earthquake talks about his prostate exam, vaccine skepticism, and these damn kids today playing Fortnite. You better believe the man gets political, and is rightly concerned with the public’s hypocritical attitudes regarding personal health. He also “goes there” and makes a killer Flint water crisis joke. I laughed a handful of times, and since it’s nearly half the length of most stand-up comedy specials, I will more than likely watch it again some time. Between this and the Ms. Pat special, Netflix is on quite the role of occasionally not sucking complete ass.
