Our buddy Joe's partnership with Netflix continues, this time trying to replicate the success of his documentary about Ted Bundy's tapes, which, if you ask me, is the greatest thing there is about the serial killer.
And, while this documentary isn't awful, as someone who didn't know much about this degenerate's atrocities, I was able to learn a lot from it. Unfortunately, I believe the concept of this documentary was not met, since unlike Bundy's, where the prolific serial killer had a starring role via the tapes and was quite present throughout, we only hear approximately 10 minutes of Gacy's alleged 60 hours of unedited recording in the three hour running time of this. Nach der sehenswerten Ted Bundy Netflix-Dokumentation haben wir nun also das zweifelhafte Vergnügen, einem weiteren Serienkiller lauschen zu dürfen.
In dieser dreiteiligen Netflix-Dokumentation geht es um John Wayne Gacy, der sowohl ein aufstrebender Politiker, ein angesehener Bauunternehmer, ein Teilzeit-Clown aber in erster Linie ein Serienkiller war. Gacy ist vor allem als mordender Clown bekannt, obwohl er eigentlich nur sehr selten als Clown in Erscheinung getreten ist und diese Verkleidung nichts mit seinen Verbrechen zu tun hatte.
John Wayne Gacy ermordete zwischen 1972 und 1976 33 junge Männer – von denen einige noch immer nicht identifiziert werden konnten.
Genau wie bei "The Ted Bundy Tapes" basiert diese True-Crime-Dokumentation auf Tonaufnahmen mit dem Serienkiller. Diese Bänder wurden aufgenommen, während er sich auf seinen Prozess vorbereitete, in dem er schlussendlich zum Tod verurteilt wurde.
Ihm zuzuhören ist in vielerlei Hinsicht erschreckend und wenn uns die ganzen True-Crime-Dokumentationen etwas gezeigt haben, dann, dass jeder ein Serienmörder sein könnte.
