  I'm crying!!! I'm so glad this film exists!! more positive trans representation please! troy's love for joe was so pure, such a beautiful bond between father and son :') steve zahn gave an amazing performance and I'm excited to see more from both this director and sasha knight!

  god im trying so hard to not review this emotively but it is so fucking rare to see a trans actor playing a trans character especially someone who so clearly resembles me ten years ago as a very overtly transmasc kid attempting to navigate their own dysphoria. i remember when i was eight staring at my body and just crying, i didn’t understand why it wasn’t the same body as the men i knew and why i felt so different and that feeling is so prominent within this film. however as with all films written by people who are not trans about trans people it focuses primarily on the cisgender people in their life and not the actual trans character…

  COWBOYS may suffer from some non-linear storytelling that can make its emotional ties disconnected but the earnest performances & good-hearted nature of its story built around acceptance (plus some gorgeous Montana scenery) keep it pushing forward.

  There is a lot of great things about this movie, but number one is the relationship between Steve Zahn’s character and his child, who he lovingly accepts as they are. But I think the ‘transgender kid’ storyline was enough. When you throw in bipolar disorder and animal endangerment it creates a tension and an uneasiness that I wasn’t really looking for here.

  wow cowboys truly lives up and exceeds all my expectations and more. it has so many wonderfully delicate and tender moments between father and son and their chemistry is what ultimately makes this story and movie just do it for me, dear god i wish steve zahn was my dad 🤠
