To say that I was disappointed with “Crimson Peak” on my first viewing would be an understatement. Even after watching “Pans Labyrinth,” I still had different expectations for a del Toro film.
With that said, on this rewatch, I knew what to expect. Instead of the haunted house horror movie, the trailer prepared me for; del Toro crafted a beautiful and unique (for its time) gothic horror romance that wouldn’t feel out of place in the Hammer horror vault.
I say all that to say this. I fell utterly in love with this movie during this rewatch. The design, performances, subtle horror, and especially Edith’s story, are all perfection. Especially, Wasikowska who is excellent here, as Edith, a young progressive girl…
