Another case for never trusting other opinions. Even not what I'm about to say, because man I was completely entranced by this and I figure this doesn't have a following because people are afraid to give something called Cyborg 2 an honest shot. Similar to the first in being a B-movie with just enough meditative cyberpunk frabba jabba that lands it in a real sweet spot of high trash that happens to look absolutely stunning. As soon as this opened with a boardroom presentation where a bunch of suits are witnessing two cyborgs have sex until they explode, I knew I was watching something special. Jack Palance almost exclusively shows up as a talking mouth on conveniently placed CRT TVs to guide the main characters, until he makes an appearance in the flesh like a geriatric Rambo to save the day and say shit like "if you wanna dine with the devil you're gonna need a long spoon" (?????)

With exploding sex robots how can you go wrong? Well you can and this movie was pretty horrible but I very much enjoyed watching it. There is something so charming to me about low budget attempts at science fiction dystopias. The cheesy and cheap aesthetic ended up kind of working to the film's advantage. It also helps that you have two academy award winners (Jack Palance, Angelina Jolie in her first adult role) and Elias Koteas in the three lead spaces. There's nothing much here in the way of substance or depth and it's not quite fun enough for a rewatch but I was engaged the whole time and had fun with parts of it.
Only for those with sophisticated tastes.
Elias Koteas does his best Kyle Reese guarding babyfaced cyborg Angelina Jolie while being tracked by a dressed-to-the-nines Billy Drago and given instructions on how to invade pursuers through industrial backdrops and dark alleys by Jack Palance's lips on CRT TVs scattered across Johnny Mnemonic wastelands.
Fun, ever so '90s tech-future crap that has no relation to either version of Albert Pyun's Cyborg (1989) aside from a blurry clip montage in the beginning explaining Jolie needing to seek a human protector (ermm, why?!). The real standout is Drago, stealing every scene with the dial ripped off his oily charm, eventually having a shipyard pit-fight with Koteas with half his face burned off. When mad scientist Allen Garfield creates a technology that makes cyborgs explosive, the Glass Shadow that sometimes accompanies this as a subtitle, he sets about using it on Jolie’s cyborg. A hacker, Jack Palance, then guides Jolie’s unarmed combat trainer, Elias Koteas, to break her out of their corporate facility. Romance blossoms as the two are on the run for a better life while chased by rival bounty hunters Karen Shepard and a ghoulish Billy Drago.

Somehow sums up the entire aesthetic of a specific time/genre of of low budget sci-if in one movie.
Either everyone should be talking way more about how secretly great Cyborg 2 is, or weed has gotten WAY better just recently.
Serves not only as Angelina Jolie’s starring role debut, as a cyborg named Cash who gets in fights and takes her top off liberally, but also Jack Palance’s follow up to winning an Oscar (for City Slickers) where he plays the “man with a virtual mouth” and gets to utter dialogue like “if you want to dine with the devil you need a big spoon” before firing a grenade launcher; in name only sequel to the Pyun film is much better than it should be, mostly thanks to just being utterly batshit throughout its runtime - you know things are going to be wild when two cyborgs fuck until they explode in the first few minutes
and the supporting cast features Elias Koteas, Billy Drago (who legit looks dead in this) and character actor Tracey Walter
Angelina Jolies best movie and Jack Palance big blue video mouth will make your eyes hurt.

Academy Award winners Angelina Jolie and Jack Palance star in this tasteful and thought provoking film about exploding sex robots. Billy Drago steals the show as a deranged bounty hunter. There are no cyborgs in this and it's not a sequel to Cyborg, it's actually more like Blade Runner.
Post-TMNT Casey Jones is the human, 18 year-old Angelina Jolie is the cyborg, and Jack Palance is a mouth on a TV screen. Also has Billy Drago channeling his inner David Bowie.
This has an unintentionally hilarious ending.
Here's the thing with Cyborg 2, it's Angelina Jolie's feature film debut as the main character. That is the only reason I watched this. I haven't seen the first Cyborg but from what I've heard I didn't need to have seen it to understand what was going on here. It's a B-Movie, a straight-to-DVD film and it was bad. For a film called Cyborg there's not a lot of things Cyborg other than the mention that Jolie is one. It's mostly a romance movie with action elements.
