Every director needs a Kickstarter-funded horror remake in their oeuvre. It's so fascinating to see someone with a distinct voice like Spike Lee bring their own sensibilities to the genre. Horror thrives when it's stylish, and more importantly, when it's personal.
When people re-evaluate horror films of the 2010s, this absolutely has to be in the conversation. 2014 seems like a good year for vampires in particular. This, What We Do in the Shadows and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. Still need to see that last one. Incidentally, all great titles.
Have not seen Ganja & Hess but I will have to. For me, the existential struggle of a vampire is usually the least interesting about vampire movies. This one is an exception, and makes me think maybe I've been under-appreciating vampires all this time.
Bloody excited to sink my teeth into Jarmusch's addition to vampire canon.
