Better than I expected, Daddy's Home is a vehicle for Ferrell and Wahlberg and their respective wimpy and macho shticks. This could easily have been so much worse, but several truly hilarious bits elevated the flick to at least a minor comedy. At least not a tragedy.
No fan of Ferrell, I did find him not just bearable, but kinda funny here. Wahlberg has more consistently made me laugh in movies, yet he was more the straight man here. It's a weak story, but the gags were so crazy over-the-top that I couldn't hold back out-loud laughs.
Key scenes: the shirt; closely followed by the motorcycle; the final shot featuring Metallica's song For Whom the Bell Tolls. All sight gags... these were some of the most successful parts of the rather thin plot... dialogue was kinda touch and go, but it was pretty fun despite the shortcomings.
