"A Real Horror Gem of a Find"
A real top find on TUBI, I knew nothing about it but liked the sound of it as films underground are my thing and Paris has a fantastic Catacombs under its street, Three young graduated students decide to have a little fun visiting the Paris catacombs with a guide but soon, Sonia, Max and Henry need to escape from something hiding in the bowels of the catacombs killing them off in the maze of tunnels.
Great location, great acting and story, good editing, lots of great gore and one of the best bad guys in ages but I just wish we got to see more of him, a film I will be looking to buy if it gets an English Subtitled release:)
Young folks head down into the Paris Catacombs which is never a good idea in a horror movie. The group encounters skinheads, dead ends, claustrophobic situations, and other types of evil deep within the catacombs.
I would've liked to learn a bit more about the main characters as there seemed to be alot left on the table with that group. Also would've liked to learn more about the underground bunker. Deep Fear boasts a competent cast, brisk pacing, decent bloodshed, and a kickass final girl. It's no As Above, So Below but it's another decent subterranean horror flick.
Bloody; brutal; effective; engaging; gory; gruesome; short; thin; underdeveloped; uneven; unpredictable; unrelenting; unsentimental; well-acted; well-crafted; well-shot.
"Welcome to the catacombs!"
Three students and a guide decide to visit the catacombs below Paris. It's a bloody subterranian horror with lots of surprises and claustrophobic moments. The acting was pretty good and I liked the characters. The camera movements and the lighting was on point and the movie was unpredictable. The catacombs look like the real thing and there's so many different threats everywhere that it's impossible to get bored and makes the movie really fun. Be prepared for some far-fetched stuff though and some Nazi elements.
The story wasn't developed enough and I would of wanted a little more development with our three main characters. I'm left with the feeling like some things weren't said or shown…
Deep Fear felt like something out of 2000s Euro horror. While this bit of subterranean horror takes its sweet time getting to the main threat, the payoff was satisfying.
DEEP FEAR was very middle of the road for me. Intriguing at first with it being set in the 90s with students going into catacombs in Paris. It’s a horror film but doesn’t really pop or say what’s going on until it’s almost over. Bummed. #FantasticFest #FF2022
French horror film somewhere between As Above, So Below and Dead Snow. The film is set in the catacombs of Paris and, unlike the competition, gets by without found footage flailing. Still, it doesn't really take advantage of the setting. While it's all well filmed and nicely lit, you never get the feeling that you're actually in an environment from which there's no escape. Everything looks too ordinary for that and could also be set in any Lost Place. Also the 90s feeling that the film wants to give us remains largely unused. Nevertheless, the film is quite mysterious and entertaining for a long time, which is also due to the sympathetic main cast, from which especially the final girl…
--- 👌 So I think the film had something 👌 ---
--- 😵 I was very exhausted that day and kept falling asleep 😵 ---
--- 🤘 But what I saw was really ok 🤘 ---
Doesn't do quite enough with its ideas to deem it a must-see, but it's a fun bit of subterranean horror. Not a bad way to go if you're looking to max out your horror options with this year's FF@Home selections.
