Sarli plays the role of Alicia who is left behind with a young son when her husband goes to Panama to work. She has affairs with various men, which lead to extortion.
Alicia stretches on the beach, unknowingly attractive or simply seductive. It's not clear, but what is clear is the relationship she has with the camera that floats around her very aura for much of Armando Bó's sexploitation drama-comedy.
Left at home while her husband goes off for work overseas, what's a girl to do to make a few pesos? I mean, she's never worked a day in her life, so that would be out of the question, right? Oh, what a dilemma... maybe it would be best to just hook up with a string of dudes and pray that they keep her in the life to which she's become accustomed... what could possibly go wrong?
Miss Argentina 1955, and one of the first nude actors in Argentine cinema way back in '57, Isabel Sarli went on to film her special brand of sensual smut in films across South America.
The opening and closing segments of Desnuda en la arena echo the seriousness that's found in both Carne and Fuego, dealing with violence, isolation, and sexual manipulation. Its much longer middle section, however, is a broad sex comedy, presumably thanks in large part to the presence of Jorge Porcel, whose government minister absorbs much of the time and attention of Alicia, Isabel Sarli's seductive, blackmailer single mother.
The film starts after the death of Alicia's husband in an accident, which also badly compromised the health of their young son. She badly needs money, and thus makes several attempts to find office work. In a surprise to absolutely no one, she's harassed and groped by every man for whom she works,…
The camera and Isabel Sarli clearly enjoy each other's company, and who am I to demand anything else from a film. My first, but clearly not my last encounter with the cinema of Armando Bo.
I've seen Isabel Sarli and Jorge Porcel doing a scene together. I can die now.
I'm not necessarily talking about dying happily.
