This film is worth watching considering it’s interesting production history. NOR contributor Peter Sagal wrote the script for a political/romantic thriller set during the revolutionary upheaval in Cuba. Thos script sat in production hell throughout the early 2000s and was eventually picked up, went through various rewrites, and was sold as this film, Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights.
The result is a piddling colonial fantasy which is at times laughably silly. I watched this with a group and it was well worth the two hours for some cheeseball fun. Watch with Spanish speaking friends as their are signicant portions of the film’s climactic scenes full of unsubtitled Spanish which when translated are hilarious. Dirty Dancing fans will be dispoainted by or perhaps be delighted by Patrick Swayze’s incompressible shoehorned cameo. Enjoy this terrible film.
