There's a kind of circumstantial poetry to the A-list star power of Michael Douglas ending two weeks after 9/11. Pre-9/11, Mike's a superstar. Post-9/11, it's over. After 9/11, audiences were no longer served Movie Star Douglas, nor were they compelled to seek out Michael Douglas, ever again. Don't Say a Word was the last time he carried mainstream appeal where masses chose to see something because of him.
There is even an old TV spot that references him as "Academy Award Winner Michael Douglas." He still carried that weight with him. And--wait a minute. Larry King is quoted as calling Don't Say a Word "a masterpiece?" Excuse me? I'm calling you out, Larry King. How low is your threshold for…

”You want what they want.”
Well… if they want this lame and boring Hitchcock wannabe to go away, then yes, I want exactly what they want.
”Now do me a favor, Captain Bligh.
Just drive the friggin’ boat.”

Watched on Netflix
Don't Say A Word is somehow a double-edged sword. I really don't have anything to complain about from an acting point of view. Especially Brittany Murphy and Michael Douglas are extremely solid and the knowledge about Murphy's premature death leaves me sad every time I see her.
In the meantime the movie daughter of Douglas and Famke Janssen has also died way before her time. Unfortunately I only remember her participation in the 2nd season of 24. She was the most annoying character ever. At least she didn't disturb me here. Famke Janssen again proves that she can also kick ass, even with a plaster leg.
Unfortunately, the story is quite predictable and I always guessed the…
