To say that this film hit close to home is truly an understatement.
Initially, I grew up around Cambodian Rock, most notably waking up every Sunday morning and hearing it being blasted on a large stereo at 9 am in the morning. However, coming from a Cambodian heritage, I never definitively asked myself how this music originated.
Cambodian Psychedelic Rock was only epitomised in the confinement of old cassette tapes or rusted CDs, heard only during the festivities of the Khmer New Year at boisterous temples filled with drunk khmer uncles and aunts (who aren’t related to you btw). Yet, music was something that my family always bonded over; if they preferred Sinn Sisasmouth or Pen Ron.
