  Neil Marshall always makes films that I want to see. Ever since Dog Soldiers appeared back in 2002 I've enjoyed his filmography for its humour, sarcasm, elements of horror, and violence that seem to run throughout every film he's done. Doomsday flopped financially, and was critically mauled, but who gives a shit because this is as entertaining a B-movie as you can get. This isn't the type of film to win acting awards, it's all about gore, over-the-top violence, and one liners delivered with gleeful wit.   100-word review: Way to make the post-apocalyptic theme f***ing punk again; one of the few films, if not the only one, released between Beyond Thunderdome and Fury Road to pull off this particular aesthetic, though Mad Max makes better use of it thanks to its superior action editing. Doomsday's hodgepodge of influences, which it wears on its sleeve, make for a confusing watch, while this ought to be more of a comfort watch. The memorable brutality keeps this from being a bore, but in terms of plot, characters, and excitement, there are better post-apocalyptic action films out there.

  This movie is very entertaining and even though it has many flaws, it still is very enjoyable. 
  The story shows a deadly virus cause half of Great Britain to be forced into a permanent lockdown to prevent the virus to spread. The infected are all expected to have died, but after thirty years the virus returns and a satellite spots people in the dead zone. The government decides to send a special team into the dead zone, since the people must have found a cure, but their separation from society have made them angry and barbaric, which makes the mission difficult. 
  The movie had a good pacing and the story was interesting too, even though it kinda lost it’s momentum…

  pretty damn sloppy and inelegant scottish mash-up of escape from new york, resident evil and mad max but i still kinda appreciate the attempt, and at a certain point the sheer nasty tone and propulsive way it keeps charging through its own mess does lead to some pretty effective shocks. gruesome gore, cool destructive car chase at the end, bob hoskins shows up for a little bit. i'll take it.

  Where's Snake Plissken when you need him?

  Neill Marshall's Escape from Scotland stars a one-eyed "Kate Beckinsale" who's crossed over from the Underworld series to be a bad-ass special forces agent tasked to bring back the cure before she catches the "rage" virus from 28 Days Later.

  Actually, we don't need Kurt Russell or Kate Beckinsale as we have the more bad-ass Rhona Mitra. (I swear Kate and Rhona have to be related somehow as they could be sisters.)

  In reality, Marshall's Doomsday is either an homage to or a ripoff of the 70's/80's apocalyptic thrillers (Escape from New York, Mad Max/Road Warrior, The Warriors, Excalibur/Army of Darkness etc.).

  Holy crap! Neil Marshall you absolute mad bastard. "Doomsday" is EVERYTHING I could've asked for from a pulp genre picture. Seriously, if I were to be locked away with a pen and a pad for a year and forced to write a screenplay it would look a lot like this film. Although, it would be an even more incoherent clusterfuck.

  As it stands "Doomsday" is what can only be described as a post-apocalyptic "Mad Max" inspired pandemic film crossed with a feudal, medieval society. This film is a pure adrenaline experience that rivals some of the most batshit insane actions ever made.

  The plot is all over the place and the characters are paper thin but none of that matters.…

  The only film brave enough to tie a gimp to the front of a moving vehicle for a chase sequence
  
  Rhona Mitra along with a squad of army dudes have 46 hours to break into walled off and presumably long dead Scotland to find a cure for the Reaper Virus that's ravaging the UK.
  I'm sure the Borderlands games took some inspiration from this dystopian flick, as it's packed with a punk rock looking savage cult who are all about chaotic violence, mayhem and eating their friends. Once the crew run into the locals, it's almost non-stop carnage as they gotta escape and find the cure with the clock ticking.

  Have you ever asked yourself what it would look like if you mixed Mad Max, 28 Days Later, The Warriors, Gladiator, Escape From New York and just a little sprinkle of the Fast and Furious franchise together? No? Just me and Neil Marshall then? Well, you get Doomsday and despite all of these films of different styles and genres all being put in a blender here...it kinda works.

  Neil Marshall was in pretty good shape following Dog Soldiers and The Descent and then he made...this. Doomsday is a sort of mash up of Escape from New York, Mad Max, a load of zombie films and some other stuff. The result is just as messy as it sounds. The plot focuses on Scotland; which has been cordoned off following the outbreak of some deadly virus. Skip forward a couple of decades and said virus has found its way into England; cue a mission into Scotland to find some sort of cure.
