fucked how many of these sorts of catastrophes end up being at the hands of greedy corporate bitches too busy jerking themselves off on wall street to care one iota about lives at stake
When Lion Air Flight 610 crashed into the Java Sea 13 minutes after taking off from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on October 29, 2018, most people assumed that whatever problem caused the disaster had nothing to do with the plane. Yes, it was a clear day and there was no evidence of terrorism, but a brand-new Boeing 737 MAX wouldn’t just fall out of the sky. Surely the blame for such a catastrophe would never belong to the proud American company whose name has become synonymous with flying itself, but rather with the low-cost Indonesian carrier and/or the foreign pilot (Capt. Bhavye Suneja) it had hired to operate the aircraft that day, whose impeccable record and U.S. training were quickly…
The first piece of media I've consumed in years that makes Ted Cruz look even occasionally, mildly competent.
Just when you thought this film couldn’t make you angrier, it then manages to get you to momentarily stan Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, and now I hate myself
The pursuit of +3% quarterly growth remains one of the greatest threats to humanity.
SUNDANCE
I always enjoy Rory Kennedy's documentaries. Somehow Downfall got bogged down in details. However, it definitely brought light to the problems Boeing had when two of their aircraft crashed. Meticulously, it described what were the problems with Boeing's systems and management and how they tried to pass the blame onto innocent parties.
It's currently out on Netflix and in theaters, if you would like to check it out.
111-word review
A recount of Boeing’s 737 MAXs’ horrifying crashes and the corporate greed leading up to them, Downfall: The Case Against Boeing doesn’t soar high enough to paint a comprehensive picture of the company’s downfall. Instead, the film’s narrative structure falls flat. It swerves between a detailed account of the accidents, an observation of the devastating impact the crashes have had on the victims’ families, and a chronological review of ultimately catastrophic changes at The Boeing Company. The film utilizes interviews, news snippets, and a blend of CGI and animation to try to marry these three storylines, ultimately appearing indecisive, unfocused, and most of all, shallow—a shame considering the potential this documentary had.
