I've been waiting 20 years to see Krillin beat someone up. And he beats up so many guys in this! He's so cool.
Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F proves that Battle of the Gods was no fluke. Toriyama has not only not lost his touch, but he's gotten better with age. The writing is sharp and witty bringing much needed humor to keep Dragon Ball feeling fresh and not in the least bit stale. Aside from cliche plot devices (that was to be expected of course), this a perfect Dragon Ball film. Dragon Ball is back and better than ever. Keep up the good work Toriyama!
Somehow, they always find a way to work in the classic villains who should be long gone. Breaking the rules of their own lore too. Originally, from what I remember, Dragon Balls could only resurrect those who had been dead less than a year. Frieza had been gone way longer than that.
But I digress. This isn't even close to being a "bad" movie, but as time goes on I find more to critique about it. The inclusion of the Pilaf gang made some sense in the last one, as a way to retcon the events of GT. So why are they here again? It's cool for the fans of the original series I suppose.
Alright, alright, enough negativity. Believe…
This movie felt like it was three hours long. The fight scenes drug out and weren't very interesting, even if they were well animated. I have seen a few animated films and series that forget that you not only need good animation but choreography to make battles entertaining, and most of the battles in Resurrection 'F' were very boring.
Frieza is one of the weaker villains in my opinion, not from a power perspective but from a character perspective. He's actively obnoxious in this film however and the explanation that he just "never trained" is an attack on the viewers intelligence. Also his new form, Golden Frieza, looks terrible. I don't know who decided that that…
Toriyama is stuck between doing the light hearted humor of the original series, and trying to please fans of the fight-driven Z. SO the end result is a film trying to do both things, but never fully accomplishing either. Toriyama is of course facing the monster he created himself when he decided the adventures of an innocent and cheerful martial artist kid had to become an endless battle of roid-rage aliens yelling exposition dialogue and the names of flashy attacks. It's partially the default mode of combat anime, but also Toriyama's fault for drowning in his own sucess. Not a must, but not bad to kill a couple of hours if you dig the characters.

Was in the mood for some Dragon Ball Z today. This instantly made me feel like a child again. DBZ was a big part of my upbringing and all the memories and nostalgia quickly flooded back. Don't know why I never watched some of these movies before because I had such an awesome time with this one. It was so fun seeing all these characters and this world again.

Reviving old enemies is almost exclusively cheap fan service, and to highlight how lazy Toei and Toriyama are, the sole reason they never brought back Cell is because he's more difficult to animate because of his spots. Quite honestly, Frieza's one-shot death in Fusion Reborn was a more fitting 'resurrection' than this.
Getting first the obvious and reiterated stuff out of the way, I grew up with Dragon Ball Z, it redefined my infancy and adolescence, I still watch the series from now and then with extreme excitement during many key moments, and this movie has a stunningly epic and huge impact in Latin America, Mexico being no exception.
Now I've already talked about how Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (2013) was the biggest anticipated summer release here in Mexico. There were even tears in the theaters when the trailer was shown featuring the original Latin American dubbing voices with which we grew up and adored. It was surreal, something out of this world. Admittedly, though somewhat shamefully, I shared some…

“The first time we fought I made mistakes and you caught me off guard. To ensure that won’t happen I’m going to take my final form from the start!”
I did actually see this one back when it came out in theatre and, not knowing the Dragon Ball continuity at the time, it was more of a nostalgic throwback than engagement with the story and yeah it was pretty good. I had no idea what was going on half the time but I still recognised most of the players even if I didn’t know why things were the way they were (like why Gohan had a wife and kid).
This time around I really appreciated the…
