  Every time I watch one of my favourite movies from my childhood or teenage years it is with some anxiety: is the movie actually good, or did I just not know any better back then?

  When I watched this Danish post-apocalyptic tale about the girl Strit ("Pointy" would be a suitable translation, I guess) and the boy Stumme ("Mute") who travel through their underground world on a search for Fuglen ("The Bird"), a legendary animal that "walks on air" and that will lead them to Paradiset ("The Paradise"), "the place that has no ceiling", it was no different. I loved it as a child and quite frankly feared that I would find it intolerable now, thereby destroying a fond movie…

  A Danish animation set in the far future where global warming has made the surface of the planet uninhabitable. What's left of humanity has tunneled deep into the Earth and has continued tunneling to this day. With them in the underground are the rats. At roughly the same size as the humans, they pose an ever present threat to their fragile existence.

  Amongst the remaining tribe of people is Strit and her family. One day the lava pools begin to rise, sparking debate about a long passed down legend. A tale of people returning to the surface, lead by a bird; a mythical creature that no one can describe. Thus the adventure begins as the ragtag group of people journey…

  ¡Tengo todas las ganas de volver a ver esta película!
  Mi papá nos la compró cuando teníamos como 3, 6 (yo) y 8. 😱
  Era de mis favoritas y me torturaba tanto. Fue la primerísima película que vi sobre la catástrofe ambiental mundial.
  Y ese camino por encontrar el paraíso siempre fue un mal viaje y un detonante de malestares varios en mí, pero me encantaba verla.
  En sueños lindos o en pesadillas, la tonada de la flautilla me sigue acompañando.
