I haven't seen anything like this before even though I saw a lot of documentation. You can pause the movie anytime and frame the picture. The camera is from close, to far away, but the makers never interfered with the natural behavior of the animals. I can't possibly imagine how they managed to get some of the shots. At various scenes I thought "That is CGI now" especially when thousands of animals are in the picture, but it's surprisingly not. Also the time laps were beautiful filmed. Earth ist eine sehr gelungene, interessante Dokumentation über unseren Heimatplaneten. Wir beginnen bei dem Nordpol und enden in der Antarktis, wir reisen um die komplette Erde und bekommen dabei zu Gesicht, wie gegensätzlich unser Planet doch eigentlich ist. Wie die meisten Dokus ist auch diese sehr informativ und spannend. Earth schafft es aber vor allem nie zu langweilen, denn oft weden Dokumentationen irgendwann recht uninteressant und langatmig, nicht so Earth, denn durch das genau richtige Pacing wird es nie öde.
Auch bringt einen diese Doku des öfteren zum Schmunzeln, regt aber auch zum Nachdenken an und nicht zuletzt beeindruckt sie immer wieder, sowohl mit erstaunlichen Fakten, ich denke jeder, egal wie gut er sich auskennt, wird in der Doku noch…

Yes, I do planning on tackling all the Disneynature films in this series down the line, so why not start with the first?
Earth is an interesting release as the footage shot for this film was actually originally part of BBC's critically acclaimed Planet Earth miniseries (a show so successful that its spawned so many spinoffs since), and somehow, Disney somehow got some form of rights (like they always do), condensed the footage into a 90-minute feature film, and used the release to launch the Disneynature brand as a tribute to Walt Disney's classic True Life Adventure nature docs.

Absolutely gorgeous to look at but aside from that and some very good narration from James Earl Jones this just wasn't that interesting for a majority and is honestly really forgettable (my friends and I finished this a couple of hours ago and I've already forgotten most of it). I usually like nature docs but there just wasn't really enough here for me overall and it was really disappointing. That ostrich was cool though!
One of those situations where I liked it when I first saw it in theaters but upon a rewatch many years later, it didn't really hold up for me. It's slipping my memory, unfortunately, but there's no denying that James Earl Jones did a good job narrating the documentary and there were some truly breathtaking cinematography. The amount of work that goes into these nature documentaries always amazes me regardless of how I may feel about the overall product.

With the beautiful, panoramic cinematography, dramatic music and hokey narration, I felt like I was on an elementary school field trip to the planetarium. This 90-minute doc is for those who don't have the patience for the Planet Earth DVD set. It made me anxious because I realize I wasn't in the mood for anything bad to happen to animals -- and stuff did.
One of the earliest documentaries I watched and I enjoyed it a lot as a kid: watching animals do their thing and be captivated by the beauty of nature. I didn't recognize any of the narrators nor did I know this is a shorter cut of the TV show as a kid, but it's information I was delighted to know later on!
