why did vincent price think it was okay to give this man scissors for hands
A modern day FRANKENSTEINesque flick by director Tim Burton featuring one of my favorite actors Johnny Depp! Normally I can't stomach romance films but when you season it with a smidgeon of goth here and a pinch of fantasy there and a dash of sci-fi horror there it's a lot easier to swallow!
A real visual feast for the eyes! Breast milk for the melancholy!
Naughty Approved!
I had one question going in and this film still didn't answer it.
How does Edward wipe his ass?
I too would wreck almost an entire house if Winona Ryder wasn’t going out with me
Feeling highly emotional while talking to my slowly deteriorating in health father about about my cinematic hero Vincent Price, the greatest genre actor moving pictures has ever known, so I decided to watch the very first movie I saw him in that my dad took me to see in theaters when he was 44 and I was 5—I don’t think an actor had a better farewell exit than than Mr. Price... and it’s big energy when the first performance you see of your favorite actor makes you cry a thousand tears then and now... or maybe I’m just substituting?
“Hold me”
“I can’t”
Anyways, People are cruel and time is evil.
I love you dad—You’re my real hero.
Film #5 of Project 90
”Before he came down here, it never snowed. And afterwards, it did.”
Tim Burton is at his most creative and his fantasy is at its most pleasant here, a nice and poetically glorious film with an innocent character whose only wish in life is to be loved and accepted as a member of the society. A smart and quite precise observation of how people deal with individuals who are special in one way or another (artists?), a dark fairytale and a bitter yet incredibly romantic love story, Edward Scissorhands’ main strength is that it mixes all these stories together, adds a bit of Gothic exaggeration (which is a part of Burton’s fantasies) and presents something…

I find that Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands falters in the middle section if only to recognize the frailty of the titular character. If the concept seems limited, and the humor and tragedy is a variation on his uniqueness, it is in hindsight a tactic to raise Edward to a status of fairy-tale creation, much like Vincent Price's role of The Inventor. In order for Edward to be a fleshed-out, fully-formed character, the audience must be confronted with how little he understands about the world, its harshness, and the judgments of others. His poetic existence must be seen not just from a distance, at a matter of remove, but be fully empathetic and personal. Tim Burton's overt style in the…
Tim Burton's masterpiece. One of the saddest, most beautiful and poignant love stories ever filmed.
When a filmmaker has been doing the same schtick for 30 years, it’s easy to forget why we all fell in love with that schtick in the first place. Edward Scissorhands is wonderfully demented and sweet, a gothic fairytale that only Burton could pull off. Well, 80’s-90’s Burton that is. Props to Winona Ryder for looking exactly the same today as she does in this film.
The creepy neighbour people legit accuse the guy of sexual assault and everything and they never got sufficiently punished!
I'll take a punt: This is (for me) the only instance of true magic Burton ever crafted. It's on the brink of being just kind, moralistic, surreal, dark, and bittersweet enough to feel special; Winona Ryder dancing in the ice shavings its defining moment.
For a director who can range from pretty darn good (eg: Corpse Bride) to truly awful (eg: a lot of his work, actually) it's nice to feel swept away this once.
