Don’t you hate it when you finally meet a nice girl and your computer tries to cockblock you?
This is so frantic and interestingly shot, cut with 80s ~aesthetics that I love so much. I don't know, its a super weird film but its so so charming. I MEAN, LOOK AT THAT POSTER. It's got great visuals and like, it knows itself, it knows what it wants to look like and it knows its kinda goofy but it doesn't play it goofy.

Electric Dreams is a film that we enjoyed on many levels. The soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder including songs by Culture Club, UB40, Johann Sebastian Bach, Phil Collins, and Jeff Lynne. Lenny von Dohlen gives a performance similar to Twin Peaks while he had uncanny chemistry with Virginia Madsen. The 80’s vibes may have been prevalent but, most of the technology shown was not available and is now commonplace. Rusty Lemorande’s screenplay was ahead of its time. Bud Cort as Edgar the computer was hilarious while trying to win over Virginia Madsen’s sexy allure. Overall, Electric Dreams (1984) is a great example of a classic 1980’s film that has cheese elements, technology, and a twisted story about AI competing for a human female.

This obscure, deliciously cheesy '80s romantic sci-fi comedy was light years ahead of its time. The plot revolves around a love triangle that involves a computer that became sentient as a result of a freak accident. I obviously fell in love with it instantly!
What I love most about this film is how it manages to be both lighthearted and funny while being unintentionally prophetic at the same time. Objectively, this is a bad movie: a truly bizarre love triangle (a boy, a girl, and… an 8-bit computer), horrible acting, and preposterous plot all mixed together. It’s almost the opposite of WarGames – a love story written by someone who doesn’t understand computers at all, starting with using “electric” instead of “electronic” in the title.
Subjectively, this is tons of fun to watch. The anthropomorphized protagonist (gaining sentience after its user… spills champagne onto its circuit board) is hilariously entertaining and makes both HAL and GERTY look like obsolete office mainframes. when the computer killed itself i had a complete breakdown
and when the computer hacked every radio in the world to play Together in Electric Dreams i had a transcendental out of body experience
Just ignore my 5-star rating for this one and move on. There's nothing to see here. I'm not going to attempt to justify my love for this one, as it's running on pure nostalgia. I loved it as a kid, for whatever reason, and it still hits all these years later. That's all there is to it. This one is just for me, and I'm fine with that.
A suggestion from Jarrett Heather (Director of “Word Crimes” by Weird Al Yankovic), Electric Dreams is not a good film. Unless you're into it - then it's amazing.
The film stars a young Virginia Madsen, is scored by dance music legend Giorgio Moroder and is basically an 80's desktop computer hardware fan's wet dream. Here's the plot in short: Guy buys a computer, takes it home, spills champagne on it and it becomes sentient.
