Poor Ella Cinders is much abused by her evil step-mother and step-sisters. When she wins a local beauty contest she jumps at the chance to get out of her dead-end life and go to Hollywood, where she is promised a job in the movies. When she arrives in Hollywood, she discovers that the contest was a scam and the job non-existent. But through pluck, luck, and talent, she makes it in the movies anyway, and finds true love.

I believe I've fallen in love with Colleen Moore. A delightful comedic take on the Cinderella story that also incorporates some Hollywood behind the scenes story elements similar to Souls For Sale & Show People. Ella (Moore) is a servant to her awful mother, and spoiled rotten sisters, but wins a beauty contest that includes a trip to Hollywood to be in the movies. The contest was a scam, but Ella is determined to make it in pictures. Sadly, many of Moore's pictures are lost or exist in incomplete form.
A Cinderella story where instead of marrying a prince our heroine becomes a Hollywood star. Fun, funny, and charming. Well-paced and doesn't overstay its welcome. Colleen Moore is an engaging star, charming herself and not afraid to look silly for a gag. Quality silent comedy.

I need to watch more Colleen Moore because she is beyond delightful in Ella Cinders. Cinderella turned accidental Hollywood star with some extremely fun behind the scenes sneaking into the studio. Right up there with Marion Davies' Show People.
Special shoutout to the intertitles that are playful each time they pop up, "For days Ella haunted studio gates - eating less than an ant at an Armenian picnic - but still game."
