Like a big, soapy telenovela directed by Sam Raimi. Too long, but jam packed with enough blood, guts and melodrama about secret curses, Satantic sacrifices, and telekinetic slaughter that it’s never ever boring. More NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET than DEVIL’S BACKBONE, despite borrowing quite a bit of campy horror spunk and political commentary from both.

Un desprejuiciado ejercicio de puro género que arranca con dudas y termina con una interesantísima y divertida mezcla de estilos y referencias. A pesar de sus numerosos fallos de guion, no me salí de la película en ningún momento igual que no lo hago cuando veo cierto cine de género italiano... Tiene esos mismos vicios y virtudes que me hacen pensar en ella como una de las películas más valientes (y probablemente suicidas a nivel comercial) del terror español de los últimos años.
Cabe hacer una mención especial al enorme trabajo de Joan Vilà, sin duda uno de los compositores con más futuro de este país.
Deseando verla de nuevo, esta vez totalmente acabada y con todos los detalles (sobretodo a nivel visual) ya pulidos.

Blood soaked satanic melodrama with a spellbinding performance by Macarena Gómez. Production design and lighting make ya wanna live in this cursed little Spanish town.
Basically a horror telenova, overstuffed with scenery chewing performances, melodramatic twists, and a huge web of characters with complicated relationships. A lot of fun, but probably too long for what it is.

El principio es cojonudo, una especie de La profecía dirigida por una mezcla de José Luis Cuerda, Wes Anderson y Tim Burton con Álex de la Iglesia a la producción.
El tercer acto es como si fuese, una vez más, cosa de Álex de la Iglesia.
Macarena Gómez estupenda, eso sí, en un papel que apenas ha tocado: el de desquiciada.
