Thor gets to be John wick/Jason borne against an Indian drug lord?? That’s a big motherfucking hell yes from me, mate.
It’s getting 4.5 instead of 5 stars bc there were like 8 minutes where he talks/gets emotional instead of no scope headshotting swat team guys and I felt the movie should be penalized for that
From Thor to Fat Thor and various roles in between, Chris Hemsworth has never been shy about using silliness to subvert his god-like good looks. Drawn like a Times Square caricature of an Abercrombie & Fitch model, the Australian star has always been willing and able to shape the absurdity of his sex appeal into the punchline of a joke that we’re all in on together, or at least use it to suspend our disbelief in a cartoonish movie world that would otherwise be impossible to accept with a straight face. (See: “Blackhat.” No, really, see it — it’s good).
In that light, it’s pretty tempting to laugh when the hot but haunted mercenary Hemsworth plays in “Extraction” is formally introduced…
The narrative and emotional stakes are ported over from any number of programmers; there are no surprises to be had here. And I don't expect anyone to be super comfy with the orientalism. The star rating is for the truly delightful level of carnage and property destruction on display, including but not limited to: a terrific fake one-er, RPG vs. helicopter, a gang of lethal street urchins, and a part where Thor snaps a dude's neck by swatting him with a different dead guy's body. Hit the spot.
3 words.
White saviour movie.
There was some decent cinematography and directing. Almost made me feel like I was playing a game. I personally dont like chris hems cause he makes poor life choices. However I did find some tolerance for his character, he had a moment that made his character feel at least natural and not be this generic badass.
Its meh nothing I havent seen before. David harbour sweetie you did amazing with whatever screentime you were given. Yes I'm attracted to david harbour what about it!
If you got nothing to do for 2 hours, this the movie for you.
There’s one scene everyone’s gonna watch and talk about. I guess the nice thing about. Netflix is ... you can skip right to it and don’t have to worry about the rest?

Great action sequences.
Amazing camera-work.
Stunning acting Chris, Rudhraksh, and Randeep Hooda.
Zero plot.
Poor screenplay.
Mad Randeep Hooda's fight is the main event of the film.
Is it that easy to perform these kinds of operations in the capital city of Bangladesh? I mean one outsider enters in the capital city and kills hundreds of Policemen and the drug lord's men that easy?
Crazy popcorn action fun.
Director Sam Hargrave has a background in stunts, and it shows in Extraction. Think affordable Chad Stahelski. I thought there would be more story. Instead, the action almost never stops.
Chris Hemsworth is a badass dude. He makes a great Thor, but perhaps, an even better leading action actor. His fight work is legit. I’m not sure how much is actually Chris, but it sure looks like him in almost every action scene.
We also have a kid who isn’t annoying. Children can ruin action movies. Ovi doesn’t.
The cast is strong. The action is stronger. Perhaps, Extraction might run too fast at times, but it definitely is the action movie we need right now.
holy shit that yellow filter is annoying.
I like how Hemsworth is this giant aussie as opposed to most action heroes who are little men.
Closer to John Wick than to 6 Underground, but still a pretty noticeable gap in terms of spacial awareness and kinetic progression.
As the One Take Hater I can say that the 12 minute single take in this movie was pretty unnecessary but still made for one of the better sequences. It's just not that impressive to do a pseudo one take with handheld camera and 15 whips pans. The sequence itself was pretty cool though, in that it would on occassion leave the main character to follow another sweaty guy and then meet back up when he inevitably gets his skull shattered by Chris Chrisworth. I talked myself back into it, I give the sequence a pass.
The rest…
You drown not by falling in the river, but by staying submerged in it
Is it weird to call an action movie that is scorned with graphic, violent sequences beautiful? Cuz that’s what this movie is. The opening scene of Tyler (Hemsworth) covered in blood, fighting to move while dodging bullets is oddly mesmerizing. The colors are vibrant: the reds of blood opposing the browns of dirt and dust. The story itself is one of trust and redemption almost. Albeit, it’s a bit tricky to follow at certain points but I think that’s part of the Director’s intent.
* I will say that the yellow/orange colorization of these countries is overdone
Straight from the John Wick playbook of action story telling - one man stabs, shoots, and generally beats up an unending parade of assailants. And it's pretty damn cool a lot of the time (especially the single shot set piece that's as clever as hell) but by fight number 50 you'll certainly get the sense of rinse and repeat. Also strange that the highlight to the film is stuck right in the middle - save that epicness for the end.
When it comes to Netflix films, you could do a lot worse.
I didn't expect to like this movie so much. It's a different take on popular motive. Long one takke fight scenes are amazing. Only Criticism I have is on the predictable interaction with his friend.
Chris Hemsworth, not only attempts to extract a kid, but also my heart in the process.
Ugh...it's so flipping good. Even my girlfriend liked it...and that's saying something. Better than 90% of the 2021 oscar nominees...but that's not saying much.
