judge: so you're saying you DID murder over 30 young women in over 7 states, decapitating at least 12, and bludgeoning even more... meaning you truly are extremely wicked, shockingly evil and vile
ted bundy: bet on it

I'm not alone in thinking that it's an extremely weird choice to do the Ted Bundy story as like... Catch Me If You Can, right? I think the tone is meant to capture and have you align with the POV of the people that were charmed by him but it focuses so hard on framing these events as the escapades of a quirky, loveable con artist (ironically? I guess?) that by the time it finally gestures towards contextualizing the violence it doesn't really matter anymore. Berlinger is clearly interested in the contradiction of the personable and the monstrous (and so am I) but by saving the latter for what plays like a twist (?) ending it never ends up investigating…
An interesting take on Ted Bundy, showing the story of his murder trials from the perspective of his first wife. The director doesn’t glamorize Ted, but you do understand why his wife was questioning her own gut instinct almost to the end. In terms of his serious roles, this is the best I’ve ever seen Zac Efron, and Lily Collins too. Because of this unique take, I imagine this film might be divisive... but it will definitely get you talking afterwards!
I’m so triggered that there isn’t a comma after “Evil”.
Zac Efron gives an insanely good performance. Easily the best of his career.
I highly recommend watching the Ted Bundy tapes before watching this or have at least watched some sort of documentary on Ted Bundy. The biggest problem with this movie is that it doesn’t do a good job at all showing us what a fucking horrible piece of garbage Ted Bundy was. We don’t see him commit an actual murder until the very end of the movie. Without any prior knowledge, this movie would be a pretty confusing watch. It really does nothing to show us that he was guilty of these despicable acts. They really should have had some scenes of him committing the crimes. The movie would have been much more effective had they done that.
lily collins SNAPPED in that final scene oh that’s my gurl!!!!!!! 3 stars for her and her only tbh!!!!

Wait, what exactly I am supposed to be feeling throughout this? Intensity? Discomfort? Shock? Because it's pretty standard information that Ted Bundy was an evil yet charming individual who was all the more demonic and deplorable because of his success in terms of wit and luring in victims. It's not a revelation, and the film does nothing in the way of making those beats interesting on a level that constitutes a major film production, which this doesn't even look like. Oh wait, you mean a mass murderer can be charming? No fucking way. Big news everyone. Check out [INSERT UNNECESSARILY LONG TITLE HERE] as soon as you can! Anyway. This is standard Wikipedia shit. The movie does none of…
I don't need a movie to humanize Ted Bundy.
You don't need a movie to humanize Ted Bundy.
His victims and their families don't need a movie to humanize Ted Bundy.
NOBODY needs a movie to humanize Ted Bundy!
Perhaps, the most extremely wicked, shockingly evil and vile thing about this movie is that it fails to show Bundy as the monster he really was. Instead, it spends a lot of time building empathy for him, showing how charming he was, often framing him as the cool guy. Yes, Zac Efron does a really impressive job acting. That doesn't mean this movie needs to exist as it is.
