Love it. Fun and funny. Action is, as expected, very impressive. Stunts and FX are great. The whole cast is strong but Ryan Reynolds is truly hilarious. I may actually see this twice in cinemas.

Neulich, schon wieder im Meetingraum der Sevenbucks Production. Dwayne Johnson platzt verschwitzt in den Raum. Gerade eben noch hat er seine neuste "strategic partnership" gelauncht - künftig wird es nun auch "The Rock" gebrandeten Sauerstoff geben. Doch dafür ist gerade keine Zeit...die Stimmung ist erhitzt:
Dwayne: "Leute, so geht das nicht weiter. Das Fast & Furious-Franchise ist krass erfolgreich, aber ich muss mir den Ruhm ernsthaft mit diesen anderen Flachpfeifen teilen. Das muss aufhören!"
Produzent A: "Dwayne, setz dich erstmal und löffel ganz in Ruhe dein Proteinpulver-Fässchen aus. Wir haben da schon die Lösung. Zwei Worte: Spin. Off."
Produzent B: "Das..ist eigentlich nur ein Wort.."
Dwayne: "Brillant! Immerhin ist Fast & Furious ja bekannt für seine weit verzweigte, tief verwurzelte Narrative. Die…
Speaking as someone who's fully on board with the escalating absurdity and monofilament-thin narratives of this series, this barely even qualifies as a LETHAL WEAPON 3-level almost-invisible clothesline for endless shtick and violence. Call it sacrilege if you must but Statham and Johnson exhaust what little chemistry they have early on and the excessively digital action sequences are just weightless and repetitive. Makes the others seem tightly structured, exciting, and coherent. Leitch is turning into a real disappointment as an action filmmaker despite his very apparent skill.

You’d think I would’ve liked this movie more considering twenty minutes in Idris Elba gets thrown through a double decker bus, stands up and basically goes “of course you realize, this means war.”
There was one section of this movie with so many drone shots that my audience began laughing and even applauding the drone shots. Who can know what lies in the hearts of our fellow man, but it didn’t seem to be coming from a place of “that’s too many drone shots.” Rather we just sensed that something insane was happening with the shots we were being presented and got so riled up that we cheered. I see how men in simpler times were rallied to war. I understand.

Once the Fast and Furious franchise was 'in' on the joke and not deliberately trying to reinvent the genre and style of their own series, it became worthless. That perfect middle can be found in Tokyo Drift or Fast 5 and 6, which attempt their own goals and have formal ambitions in addition to their populistic flavor. They were fun and silly and surprisingly engaging on a formal level. What Hobbs and Shaw is in comparison is a commercial at punishing length, without worth of its own. It feels like it's missing a laugh track.
In baseball there’s a statistic called “wins above replacement”; it measures the value of any given player on a team by comparing them to an average or “replacement-level player” at the same position. A pitcher with a WAR of 5.0 is worth five additional wins to his team. Hobbs & Shaw is the movie version of a replacement-level player. It is adequate, but not exceptional. It’s the baseline version of what one of these movies should be.

I’ve only seen the first Fast and Furious and this. Figuring out how they exist in the same universe was more enjoyable than either movie.
I too love words like engage, mainframe, and extraction.
