A young millennial vlogger guy hosts a show that is basically Buzzfeed Unsolved for simpletons...horror ensues when they spend a few nights in a haunted mansion. This is a fairly cheap attempt to capitalize off of the Korean elevator game. Followed is basic, not scary or creepy, and at times very boring. The only real distinction this movie has is that the protagonist might be the least likable character in film history.

So I am supposed to right after this write some questions for the stars of the film and I asked for a screener to watch the movie and see what's up. To be honest, this is one of those found footage movies that you need to come in with right expectations in order to enjoy it. You know?
Is this a scary movie? Nah. This is a cheap jump scare fest, filled with many of the tropes of the genre. Was it fun? Well, see, for me even the main star's personality might come as annoying, I actually get to enjoy his over the top, almost spoofy vlogger persona.…
Not knowing anything about this film nor that they were making one of those found footage ordeals similar with the Cecil Hotel and Elisa Lam and the hotels history, etc. I thought it was alright.
Vlogger "DroptheMike" guy was sooooooooooo annoying.
The actor reminded me a bit of the other character "Wade" from "Friday the 13th (2009)' played by Jonathan Sadowski.
Before watching the film I had a headache to begin with so when those shaky camera footages began they hurt my brain even more and I'm gonna rest my eyes now for a leel bit.

Okay, so based on the title and poster, I was expecting another Unfriended or Searching computer based flick, or to a lesser extent, another Ratter. Instead we get some Logan Paul wannabe YouTube jock who's checking out a modern haunted hotel story to gain more followers. So who the fuck is that on the poster??
Anyway, Mike sees this thing for a quarter million dollar prize and he's desperate enough to risk himself and his crew to get it. He runs a channel called DropTheMike where he basically goes around debunking ghost stories.
I guess one of the best aspects is how much of a sceptical jerk Mike is; you look forward to everything that's gonna to happen to him…
I’m gonna take it easy on this one and just say it’s not very good. I love found-footage so I at least found most of this watchable. The main issue is the movie is just not scary at all. The scares come off cheesy and when you aren’t scared, the rest of the flaws stick out even more. The concept is there for a better movie but this ain’t it.
Starts off as what seems like an Unfriended riff but it's really just someone screen-recording their computer as they watch this annoying youtube influencer's videos as he stays at a supposedly haunted hotel so he can get big bucks from "Haute Gothic" as a sponsor (lol, but I hate it).
As much as the characters and premise annoyed me, I was willing to sit through it because in the middle of this crapfest they bring out the big guns: CREEPYPASTAS! I like the concept of parodying these YouTube personalities exploiting tragedies and what not, but like that doesn’t mean you should actually somewhat exploit a real tragedy. Not a fan of that. I sort of like some of the horror set pieces... I mean they weren’t really scary but I guess I sort of liked the way they set some of them up earlier in the film. I like when films use whatever the characters have to build their scares. I like how they somewhat made the lead character the absolute worst, but like I hated how they tried to humanize him. He literally is just saying “what’s up, Minions?” most of the time. Like you can’t humanize that lol. I just wish more horror films would allow their lead characters to just be absolute bastards.

Day 8 - Hotels
Not sure why this has such bad reviews, all of the Dropthemike content feels exactly like it would if he was a real influencer. Yeah, he’s annoying but like isn’t that the point?
Hotel Lennox is very much a carbon copy of the Cecil Hotel which was an interesting choice, but I get the appeal. They even have their own Elisa Lam (Meghan Kim) story which provides the elevator game that starts all of the spookiness.
It’s definitely not perfect, and the end leaves something to be desired… but for fans of found footage it’s surprisingly decent.
