Don't ask me why but when I was just a sprat music was never heavy enough for me. I was one of those kids who went nuts for Appetite, Rust in Peace, pre-Justice 'lica, with mild smatterings of Napalm Death, Nailbomb etc. But the deeper I went into this axis the more estranged I became from it. The likes of Cannibal Corpse, Slayer and Pantera made no sense to me, and I became alienated from and fearful of the boorish, destructive type of people that particular sound seemed to attract. So I backflipped into a gentler, trippier 70s vibe, Floyd, Oldfield, Zepp, Doors etc, and all the hardcore dudez were like "Kyle why you gotta listen to that hippie poofter…
Meandering documentary focusing on founder and lead Al Jourgensen of the pioneering industrial metal band Ministry. More of a glorified tour video that doesn't particularly go into detail besides random anecdotes and stories. Fellow musicians and friends are interviewed only to mostly talk about their own experiences in the business. Some active and ex-Ministry members appear briefly but again provide scattered insight. The most interesting tidbits come from former longtime bass guitarist and producer Paul Barker, who's like the opposite of Jourgensen, appearing for a grand total of about five minutes. The rest is random live montages and behind the scenes slop.

I won't bother reviewing "Fix" because it's about the band Ministry - you should already be able to gauge your own interest in this. Here are some scattered thoughts:
• Cool to see what Al Jourgensen actually looks like underneath all that shit he always seems to have covering his face.
• The film doesn't do that boring formula of discussing how everyone met and going album by album blah blah blah bullshit... It's really a fly-on-the-wall document of Ministry ripping apart at the seams.
• At first I thought that Al wore those top hats as an affectation, but after watching him pass out talismans to bandmates and telling everyone to beware…

Once rented this from Toronto's Suspect Video, where it was billed as a modern-day Cocksucker Blues. A tantalizing pitch! But not quite right. The Stones doc was scuttled from release because the band objected to the content. This was never (officially) released because the director owes Ministry frontman--and executive producer, and the film's warts-and-all subject--a bunch of money. Fair enough!
Completely unflinching look at a band and scene--industrial music circa the mid-'90s, when the genre was enjoying a popular surge thanks to the popularity of Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. Al Jorgensen at the peak of his creativity, hype, success, ego, paranoia and drug addiction. It's one of the wildest rides in documentary form, I recommend this doco to everyone, not just Ministry fans. There is a LOT going on here.
Goes really in-depth into rock stars and their addiction focusing on a man who gestures with a syringe in conversation as if it were merely a cigarette.
Also features one of the best line ups of talking heads in metal music, from Trent Reznor to Jonathan Davis to David Yow.

This has been my favorite music documentary for years now because it's the only one I've seen that doesn't really seem to glorify drug addiction. This movie is uncomfortable and sad, and that's it.
You know someone is fucked in the head when tour shenanigans go beyond just drinking, doing drugs and fucking groupies into doing rituals like applying oils, distributing talismans to the band, and wearing top hats to make it harder for someone to shoot you in the head...
Should have focused less on Al's heroin addiction and more on his love for Paul Barker.
This documentary is kinda poorly put together, but it's got some really good shit in it. It seems to jump around in time and subject a lot, and just have random shit thrown in without any context a lot. It makes you wonder if it was edited on some of Al's drugs.
Having said that, the music fuckin rules and it's worth watching for that.
Kind of an incoherent doc but what else would you expect from a tale of Al Jourgensen? I also realized Maynard James Keenan looks like the Dilbert guy.
