The description for this film states that it is a homage to David Lean's 'Brief Encounter', which I sadly have not yet seen, meaning I probably didn't pick up on everything that I could've within the film's short runtime. However, isolated from that reference, Kwietniowski's use of black and white, and the delightful score make for a highly effective tale of silent romance either way.
found this while trying and failing to find dreams of passion (1989) and while im disappointed that i wasnt able to find that one, this was charming regardless. will probably understand better if/when i watch brief encounters.
A short and sweet film that captures what it’s like to fall in love with someone from the briefest of encounters, or in the case here, simply through a photograph. Also the score is credited to Startled Insects(?!?) and it is rather lovely.
searched "brief encounter" at the bfi mediatheque and found this lovely gem! short enough runtime that I was able to watch before my showing.

An interesting dreamlike interpretation of romance. The visuals were pretty good and I see a lot of passion in the film even if it is not much in the way of characterization. It is like an impressionist painting of love than an accurate showcase of it.
Also, I am convinced some of this inspired Amelie. Don't try to change my mind.
