1962 John Ford TV movie that is complete forgotten despite a very good James Stewart lead performance. There is some similarities between it and Ford’s earlier also baseball themed Rookie of the Year. It was made midway through his great late run of films and is not among his very best, but deserves to be seen as it is a very Fordian artifact and his use of TV medium has an essayistic quality that makes his similarities to Welles much more pronounced than usual.
For those watching it on YouTube, I'm pretty sure there's a chunk missing, and I also think the order of the videos should be 1, 3, 2, 4, 5 instead of how they're laid out.
Either way, this is a total fucking treasure, and viewing it at the Paley Center has become a to-do item of some prominence on my inevitable sojourn to LA this summer (Chavez Ravine, here I come!).
A neat underrated gem with some classic Fordian compositions scrunched into TV movie form.
