Disney really just snatched the main voice cast of Ducktales out of the voice recording booth and threw em into Canada to film a movie about a CG squirrel.
Disney’s latest straight to streaming release, Flora & Ulysses, is just another simple project you can miss. Directed by Lena Khan and based on Kate DiCamillo’s 2013 novel of the same name, the story follows Flora and a super-powered squirrel named Ulysses as they embark on various adventures in an attempt to escape from animal control.
Full to the brim with geeky comic book references, that if I’m honest I rather enjoyed, Flora & Ulysses is just another child friendly movie from Disney that children will enjoy, but will leave most adults feeling absolutely nothing. Disney seems to have found their comfort zone with films like this. Timmy Failure, The One and Only Ivan, and now this film all fall into a similar category. They are built for young kids, families, and this specific crowd to turn their brain off an enjoy. Not that there isn’t substance here, but it just runs through the same exact formula we have seen countless times.
