I really like the cinematography. There's also some good laughs here and lots of artistry. But what is this movie about? Big Bird wants to go away, as if something inside him is unfulfilled, and then he just comes home in the end.
There's a good message buried here for children about how dangerous the wide world can be for a child, but the text doesn't quite drive that home, and it doesn't tie in much with the thread of institutional arrogance.
Follow That Bird will suffice to keep small children occupied, but the wonderment it inspires in them will be muted by the confusion brought on by its slack narrative threading.
