i hate to say i hope i dont sound ridiculous i dont know who Le Mans is. he could be walking down the street, i wouldnt know a thing. sorry to Le Mans.
Watched a screener link and I'm kicking myself for it. This is a film for the big screen. Excitement in craft, performances, production and sound design.... really great.
My fave James Mangold film... but full disclosure, have not seen Walk the Line. I know, I know... it's in my queue.
Phedon Papamichael's digital cinematography is truly stunning. One of the best looking films of the year.

before i watched this i thought matt damon played "ford" and christian bale played "ferrari". the rumors are true i have 2 braincells
In a year of films where it feels everyone involved was doing their absolute best, Ford v Ferrari lands on the opposite side of the spectrum. Aside from the editors it was clear that everyone who worked on this, and I mean EVERYONE (besides the editors...and fuck it, Bale too) sleepwalked their way through this. Just when you think something worth writing about is going to happen, they pull back. The bright cinematography was eye-grabbing at first but gets old real fast. It’s getting the job done, nothing more. It’ll be the talk of the town at this year’s Thanksgiving, though.

Looking increasingly likely I just won’t have time to write at length about this movie, but I absolutely loved it. One of the few long movies lately that needed to be as long as it is — you can’t tell the story of a 24 hour race without giving the viewer the feeling of time passing. It’s filled with many of the elemental components of cinema: Speed, energy, movement, innovation, and handsome men in sunglasses. This has got to be one of the best things Disney got from the Fox merger, and in a subtle way it might speak to the act of creation under those kinds of corporate conditions.

The guy who didn't invent but so perfected the biopic template that they basically made a beat-for-beat parody of it reworks that project to parallel old school masculinity with market capitalism. It's SPEED RACER for your dad. I'll forever be tantalized by the Michael Mann engine under this chassis.
