I created the music for this movie in collaboration with my friends Julian & Orie, so I won't mess with the star rating! But this was a a personal milestone, and I'm proud of what we were able to make on such a shoestring budget. The way music works in this movie's world gives you just about unlimited license to have fun.
The reason I can’t rate this higher is that the humor often drifts back into the questionable realm that the first lived in. Otherwise, it’s comedy gold. The concept of a post-apocalyptic Bakersfield is hilarious. It still amazes me how they manage to write these screenplays where not a single sentence makes any sense. The daughter was a nice addition with the goofiest accent imaginable. It’s fun, just less of a film and more of a drinking game. I do have to admit, though: there are broken clock moments of true insight.
In the years after the cult hit THE FP, actor/director Jason Trost ventured into other areas, such as directing ALL SUPERHEROES MUST DIE, a satire of reality TV in WET AND RECKLESS, and acting in HATCHET III, Slayer music videos, and even cameoed as JTRO in THIS IS THE END, the post-apocalyptic comedy from Seth Rogen.
But the Beat-Beat kept calling...because when you ride together, you die together.
BEATS OF RAGE was made with the help of Indiegogo and the swelling of fan support spun out into another sequel in ESCAPE FROM BAKO. The FP is once again at risk thanks to a storm of sobriety and a possible time travel aspect with JTRO and Chai-T's daughter. Made for $20,000…
The movies are review proof, you either get them/like them or not. Personally I think these movies are all super fun and creative, it's impressive what Trost has managed to do with not a lot of money, a green screen, and a bunch of miniatures. The lore Trost is building around this series is appropriately insane/nonsensical, im looking forward to where it's all headed. Also - VERY happy to see Lee Valmassy come back to the series.
Spectacularly peculiar, and almost certainly absolutely impenetrable to anybody who doesn't already have a slight understanding of the world that these films take place in. Real fun once you get on its wavelength.
I regret missing my chance to contribute to this film. My name would have scrolled up the screen while artwork of a duck was going by.
Bring on FP4! QWAAAAAAACK!!!!!!
There's a progression from going from the first movie to this one of going full omega gangsta. This is mo'suckin great and I can't wait for the next one.
Coulda used a bit more Nitro and DC, but I think we're getting more next.
