A woman diagnosed with terminal lung cancer gathers her three dearest friends together to make the most of the time she has left.
Frailer is a docufiction movie about a woman with breast cancer, and how that effects her group of 3 close friends. The doc scenes are filmed with an iPhone (obvious because square) while the fiction is in a lush widescreen format. It moves between the two seemingly in order to capture essences of scenes without the natural lagginess of reality. But then they have fictive characters that eventually drop out and...its kind of a mess.
But there are some beautiful and brutal and honest scenes on both sides of the line. Doc scenes of the woman fading away through chemo can't be captured through fiction, while fiction scenes of an artist trying to abstract reality capture an emotional core better…
