Hey... HEY! Why is nobody talking about this movie? This is actually an interesting take on a story about people with superpowers. Go support it in theatres, people!
This was kinda dope! It was like a low budget, indie X-men movie. I knew nothing about this going in which made it really interesting. I love how it’s told from the perspective of the little girl because everything felt dreamlike and confusing until she learns more about the world, which is when things become clearer as a viewer.
Lexy Kolker did a really great job as the lead, especially for a child actor. The rest of the cast was pretty solid too.
It felt a little slow at times but I dug this and I’d like more indie sci-fi please!
A chintzy yet well-intentioned slab of socially conscious science-fiction, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein’s “Freaks” is a familiar tale of super-powered outcasts who are forced to hide their gifts from the rest of humanity, but the appeal of this derivative slop is all in the telling. The fun here — and there is some decent fun to be had — has nothing to do with the story, and everything to do with how patiently the filmmakers let us in on its secrets. In other words, “Freaks” is undercooked red meat for “Westworld” superfans, Reddit sleuths, and anyone else who tends to engage with genre entertainment as though it were a puzzle for them to solve.
For others, however, this low-budget “X-Men” clone may feel more like an exasperating 104-minute audition for whatever franchise superhero fare its makers are clearly hoping to be hired for next.
Everything was creepy around this wee girl. Her Dad, the house, her drawings, her hanging out grubby vest, and the ice-cream man.
You pick up the pieces through Chloe's eyes, as she gradually learns about the world around her, and discovers her powers.
Great visuals of how their powers work, especially liked the slow motion of the missile.
If anyone tries to hurt us, I know how to make them stop.
This is the X-Men reboot we all deserved. Part Leave No Trace and part The Incredibles, Freaks transports us to a world where government forces attempt to control "abnormals" by any means necessary to keep society safe. Told from the perspective of one special little girl in hiding with her father, the story takes a little while to get going, but when it does, it's emotional, hard-hitting and thoroughly captivating. Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern are cast highlights. Recommended.

Eigentlich muss man gesehen haben, wie es die Macher von „Freaks“ schaffen, eine eigentlich richtig gute Idee unter der vielleicht miesesten Kinderrolle der gesamten Filmhistorie zu beerdigen, aber - dafür ist „Freaks“ dann einfach doch zu scheiße. Jede Sekunde, in der die junge Hauptdarstellerin auf der Leinwand zu sehen ist, habe ich inbrünstig gehasst - kreischend, heulend, bockend, meckernd schmollt sich die kleine Mistgöre von einer Szene zur nächsten und ist dabei derart chaotisch geschrieben, dass jegliche Plotprogression dauerhaft torpediert wird. Der Punkt, an dem die Handlung dann endlich in Fahrt kommt, ist dummerweise auch gleichzeitig der Startschuss für ein Sammelbad geradezu lächerlicher Storyturns.
Das Worldbuilding von „Freaks“ bedient sich zwar mehr als offensichtlich…

A expectativa de um terror psicológico ou apocalíptico choca-se com a realidade de um filme de mutantes com poderes especiais sendo caçados por humanos, Emile Hirsch e Bruce Dern foram ótimas iscas para atrair desprevenidos.
Uma vez estabelecida a trama, feita a identificação dos personagens, motivação e destino, tudo fica extremamente previsível e cai no automático.
O problema foi a artimanha para surpreender o espectador que começa com sinopses vendendo gato por lebre e acompanharmos o desenvolvimento da primeira parte da história através dos olhos da criança alienada propositalmente pelo pai.
I love old Bruce Dern <3 This was an alright sci fi horror but a little underwhelming after an interesting start. The kid was fairly decent apart from when she was trying her intimidating faces, made me laugh. Emile Hirsch was impressive.
this is one of those Christian End Times movies about persecuted Christians only the Christians are the X-Men.
