The first hour is intensely entertaining 8/10. The third act is quite underwhelming 4/10.
Fried Barry is a sleazy, cheesy, drug induced pile of trippy wtfuckery covered in vibrant neon hues. Which sounds outstanding! Problem is it runs about 15 mins to long and loses steam in the last half of the film. There's a really random scene where he saves some kids that's cool. Whole movie was random really as nothing really connected from one scene to the next. He just walked around and stumbled upon things. Another middle of the pack Shudder release. Which isn't a bad thing tbh. Watchable time waster but ultimately forgettable.

Think Joe Bob had the score right the first time. Gary Green has a striking appearance in his mostly silent performance which gave me flashbacks to Dougie Jones from Twin Peaks: The Return. The surrealistic stuff here was rudimentary and I wanted more zip from the trip. Early scenes had notable highs of sleaze and gore, but it ends up being kind of a drag. Darcy the Mail Girl wasn't vibing it much, either. 5.4/10
After talking about a South African production going American in Triggered, here's one that embraces its roots. It's like Starman if Starman were a junky wandering through urban Cape Town. And there was a ton of sleazy, red-lit sex. At its best when it feels like a feature-length Chris Cunningham video, Gareth Place's trippy visuals and Haezer's fantastically crunchy, bass-heavy electronic score do a lot of the heavy lifting (the music and sound design really is MVP). As might be expected from a film shot without a script, it's kinda sketchy and relies more on the weird physicality of Gary Green than his acting ability. It also outstays its welcome. I'd have preferred it to have slashed the runtime and maintained that acerbic surreal tone throughout but it became a little gooey and soft-centred by the end.

This one is absolutely wild and semi-messy, but the good begins to outweigh the bad upon reflection. This Shudder original is full of as many interesting filmmaking techniques as any Horror film we have seen in awhile. The Alien brings some good to Barry, child protector, loves his wife. Barry ek's lief vir jou. I can see why people are getting Fried Barry tattoo's.

When local junky Barry leaves home after an argument with his wife he has no idea of how his life is about to change. After meeting a fellow junky at the bar he leaves and they go the his place. They inject and then Barry leaves to wander the streets in a drug addled daze. That is until the aliens abduct him and probe his mouth, dick, and ass. Now he's possessed by an extra terrestrial and out for a night of fun on the town.

Fried Barry is a batshit insane bit of cinema that is destined to be a cult hit. It works best when playing like an Apex Twins music video, the score is great and fits the flashy and often disgusting imagery. The film falls apart when the drugs start to wear off, the movie stops to focus instead of moving forward which gives you time to notice the cracks in the edges and and start over thinking the plot.
Filled with a ton of shock value, including a dick hole probe and a surprise pregnancy, Fried Barry is never boring and well worth a watch if you are looking for something a little left-field.
Academy Award goes to Gary Green for looking like someone that could totally be called Fried Barry and no one would ever question it.
