I love these weird '90s dark comedies that were a little too off beat and missed the mark. That's not to say that this is horrible. It is so much a product of its time and feels so strangely unique that it's hard to hate it all that much.
Oh the 1990s. When you could have a comedy about Nazi war criminals complete with dialogue about how the Holocaust never happened which is punctuated with comedic musical stingers. Hahahaha. A total waste.
Watched as part of the MOVIES ON HBO IN FEBRUARY 1998 project.
What an odd movie. It definitely fell into the dark comedy genre. Great cast but it's so oddly paced and none of the jokes really land. They went with a voice over narrative and that is always tough to sell. I got a Throw Momma from the Train vibe from the film but not even half as succesful. So yeah, clearly a bit of an underseen film judging from the number of viewers & reviews and I didn't see anything here that would make me want to tell people to track it down.
A fascinating premise with a fantastic cast is wasted in this movie. We really did not need the narration at all. Ugh, so sad. Shouldn't have given my hopes up.
listen ok, i had completely forgotten i watched this, which isn't a good sign
"When you get down to it, Getting Away with Murder isn’t a particularly good film, and it is only worsened by the fact that there really isn’t anything simmering below its premise to suggest there was more to be done with this story, despite constant hints that it was heading somewhere interesting. We’ve seen acidic satires cover similar stories in the past, and Miller didn’t do anything here that could be called even close to unprecedented, despite it clearly believing itself to be occupying some elite company alongside much better dark comedies, when it actuality it barely even scratches the surface. Heavy on socially-charged discussion, but woefully light on laughs, there is a good film lurking beneath the final product,…

Watchable and with an interesting premise, but not very good. There is so much talent in this film too, but nothing ever materialized.
This was a somewhat frustrating movie. Great cast. Interesting plot. Poorly executed. For one, I can’t understand why there are voiceovers in movies. But the director of this film seemed to heavily rely on them.
I will however always love Bonnie Hunt.
Ernstes Thema, guter Cast, etwas misslungene Komödie.
